Q.No.1 A timber pile is being driven with a drop hammer weighing 20kN and having
a free fall of 1m. The total penetration of the pile in last five blows is 30mm.
Determine the load carrying capacity of pile using Engineering News formulae.

Q.No.2 Determine the safe load that can be carried by a pile having a gross weight of
1.5t using Modified Hiley’s formulae from the following data:
Weight of hammer = 2t
Height of free fall = 91cm
Hammer efficiency =75%
Average penetration under last five blows=10mm
Length of pile = 22m
Dia of pile=300mm, e=0.55

Q.No.3 A 12m long 300mm dia pile is driven into a uniform deposit of sand having
Φ=400, Nq=135, γ=18kN/m3. The water table is at great depth and is not likely
to rise. Calculate the safe load capacity of pile with a FOS = 2.5.

Q.No.4 A RCC pile 20m long, 450mm dia pile is driven into a deep stratum of soft clay
having unconfined compressive strength of 50kN/m2. The water table is at great
depth and is not likely to rise. Calculate the safe load capacity of pile with a
FOS = 2.5.
Q.No.5 A friction pile 300mm in dia is proposed to be driven in layer of uniform
cohesive soil having c= 60kN/m2. Determine the length of pile required to carry
a safe load of 200kN with a FOS =3.

Q.No.6 A 450mm dia concrete pile 9m long is driven in a deposit of cohesion less soil
The average corrected standard penetration resistance N for deposit is 15.
Using the correlations estimate the safe load carrying capacity of the pile.
γ=16kN/m3
