Q.1

Design a constant angle arch dam for a valley with following dimension .The
permissible compressive stress is 500 T/m 2 . Use thick cylinder theory . Assume
minimum thickness 2.5 m. Bed width at the base = 40 m. The height of the valley
= 100 m .Draw a sketch of the dam after completing the design .

Q.2 See
the diagram of the calculated moments for a box culvert with 4m inner
dimension. The culvert is subjected to a dead load 14 KN/m 2 . The unit weight
of the soil 18 KN/ m2. Live load from the track after calculation =33.4
KN/m(intensity of live load) . angle of repose of the soil = 30 0.
To simplify your calculations use the shown moments in the diagram then
continue the design . You can assume any missed data.
Q.3 See the shown dam below to Check safety against sliding only. Use
Combination C for loading .Flood depth=107m, normal water
depth=105.5m ,kh=kv=0.1 , Ɣw= 1 ton /m3, Ɣcon=2.4 ton/m3 , Ɣ submerged silt
=1.36 ton/m3, Ɣsilty water 1.93 ton/m 3, Fetch of reservoir= 35 km , ka= 0.3 , wind
speed =123 km/hr , µ= 0.75. compressive strength of con =300 kg/m2
There is a crack within dam body with 22m as shown in figure.
