1. The density of the sea water at free surface where pressure of 98 kpa is approximated to be 1030
kg/m3. Taking bulk modulus of elasticity of sea water to be 2.3×109 N/m2and dp = 𝜌𝑔𝑑𝑧. Determine
the density and pressure at a depth of 3000 m. Ignore the effect of temperature.

3. The diameters of a small piston and a large piston of a hydraulic jack are 3cm and 10cm
respectively. A force of 80 N is applied on the small piston. The density of the liquid in the jack is
1000 kg/m3. Find the load lifted by the large piston when:

(a) the pistons are at the same level

(b) small piston is 40cm above the large piston
