Despite Jose Rizal’s peaceful life in Hong Kong as a practicing physician, was he right when he
decided to return to the Philippines? Explain your answer.

Answer: Rizal was right he decided to return to the Philippines because this shows how he loved
our country, Even though he have a peaceful and prestigious life in Hong Kong he still chooses to
help our Mother land.

2. Jose Rizal laid out four objectives with the establishment of La Liga Filipina. Were these
objectives fulfilled before he was arrested and detained in Fort Santiago? Explain your answer.

Answer: Before he was arrested and detained in Fort Santiago, Rizal did not able to fulfil the four
objectives of La Liga Filipina. Reason of this is that, the exile of Rizal the organization became
inactive due to some reason but through the efforts of Andres Bonifacio and Domingo Franco, it
was reorganized. The organization decided to declare its support for La Solidaridad and the
reforms it advocated, raise funds for the paper, and defray the expenses of deputies advocating
reforms for the country before the Spanish.

3. Explain why Dapitan is regarded as “more than the place of exile” for Jose Rizal .

Answer: We commonly say Dapitan was “place of exile” to Jose Rizal for four years from 1892 to
1896, It was actually more than that, for the state of affairs of such exile was unique and one of a
kind. Mobility was allowed within and around the locality of a place. And also, he was given the
freedom to contribute initiatives, as we have known. Precisely, his home of four years more than
place of banishment, for the object was not exactly imprisonment but taming, as the authorities
saw it.

4. What was Jose Rizal’s view on religion?

Answer: Rizal had a long and scholarly debate with Father Pastells during his exile in Dapitan
which revealed Rizal’s anti-Catholic ideas. That is why, it is understandable why he was bitter
against the friars who committed certain abuses under the cloak of religion. As he wrote to
Blumentritt from Paris on January 20, 1890:

“I want to hit the friars, but only friars who utilized religion not only as a shield, but also
as a weapon, castle, fortress, armor, etc.; I was forced to attack their false and
superstitious religion in order to fight the enemy who hid himself behind it.”

5. What was Father Pastells’ view on religion?

Answer: To win back Rizal, Father Pastells tried his best to the fold of Catholicism. He told Rizal,
supersedes everything, his reason included, self-confidence, and individual judgment. The
intelligence is limited, no matter how wise the Man is.

Answer: Instar Omnium is the motto of La Liga Filipina founded by Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y
Alonso Realonda and its president, Ambrosio Salvador. It has the meaning of "One for All". The
patriotism of Jose Protacio Rizal is what drives their motto is Unus Instar Omnium.
