SYLLABUS
UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM
• The main objective of this course is to help students acquire the vocabulary range, develop all language skills requir
for the intermediate level, and leave them fully prepared for the IELTS examination. Topic-based units cover each of th
four skills including reading, writing and listening will be incorporated and in turn in the course. The chosen topics occ
in the IELTS test and suit the needs and abilities of students at this level.
• This course is designed to get students inside the IELTS by providing them with learning strategies, skills practice an
exam practice that is necessary to achieve the goal through both print and online content.Online content includes skil
modules, Corpus informed language specific modules, and Academic Study Skills, plus access to authentic online
practice tests in Testbank to help students be familiar with the test, enhance their exam skills and maximize their
chances of getting the score they want, while print materials focus on the development of language skills by delivering
the grammar, vocabulary and functional language as well as training and strategies for developing these skills (listenin
reading, speaking, and writing)
• Upon completion of the course, students will be able to carry out the following linguistic skills of B2 by CERF or
achieve a Band 6 or 6.5 results at IELTS.
a. Listening:
+ Understanding phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to common topics in IELTS test (e.g.
environment, news and media, travel and transport, education systems, festival and traditions)
+ Understanding main ideas and factual information in conversations in social context as well as in an
educational/training context or monologues on academic subject (e.g a university lecture)
+ Developing vital skills for dealing with the paper like paraphrasing and listening strategies.
b. Reading:
+ Understanding and applying tips to deal with difficult reading texts and unknown topics as well as all question types
such as True/False Not Given, short questions or summary completion in the IELTS test.
+ Mastering skills to skim a text to identify facts, opinions and theories or general ideas.
c. Speaking:
+ Being fairly competent in the area of pronunciation and sounding more natural and comprehensible.For example,
using intonation to communicate emotion as well as meaning or using connecting words to give longer and more
detailed answers.
+ building a range of vocabulary about common topic such as leisure, education, business and environment and using
to speak in details in each parts of the test
+ Being able to make comparisons between the past and the present & Using words and phrases that show
"concession" to look at both sides of an argument
d. Writing:
+ Planning better and developing ideas effectively in writing all types of Task 1 and Task 2.
+ Organising types of essay in a logical order
+ Enhancing grammatical structures to use in an academic writing essay/ paragraph
• Regularly attend class-meeting hours, 75 percent of attendance class hours is required for the final exam
• Actively participate in class activities during lessons
• Fulfil tasks given by instructors after class such as completing assignments.
• Use laptops in class only for learning purpose
