Task:
Application field: Medicine / Pharmaceuticals
Material: Carboxy methyl cellulose based haemostatic cloth scraps
Feed size: 80 x 40 mm
Feed quantity: 8 g for each jar
Material specification(s): dry, soft, elastic, fibrous
Customer 125 µm
requirements(s):
Subsequent analysis: Solubility, pH determination, determination of chlorides

Solution
Selected Instrument(s): Mixer Mill MM 500 nano
Configuration(s) 1 x Mixer Mill MM 500 nano, 200-230 V, 50/60 Hz 207650003
Item nos.:
2 x Screw-Lock grinding jar MM 500, stainless steel, 125 ml 014620420
14 x Grinding ball, stainless steel, 20 mm ø 053680062

Please note: Other electrical versions of the instrument(s) are available with
different item numbers.
Parameter(s): Frequency 25 Hz
Time: 5 min
Achieved result(s): 83% < 125 µm
Remark(s): Each jar is filled with 7 grinding balls Ø 20 mm and 8 g sample. Grinding is
perforemd for 5 min at 25 Hz. Due to the sample's soft properties it tends to
stick during grinding by impact and friction. Therfore the grinding has to be
performed at moderate conditons (reduced frequency). Despite the reduced
frequency still some sample sticking to grinding balls and jar wall have to be
expected (see picture 2). The fineness can be varied by changing the grinding
time and/or jar filling.
A pre-cutting to smaller pieces (about 10 mm) is beneficial for a faster
grinding and thus may allow to reduce the sample sticking.
Recommendation: The Mixer Mill MM 500 nano is suitable to grind the sample material under
the above mentioned conditions.
