The Academic Session for the year 2021-22 commenced on 1 September 2021
with the NLIU family celebrating the 23 rd NLIU Foundation Day. The Student Bar
Association had organised a Foundation Day Event in hybrid mode to
commemorate the same. The Chief Guest for the Event was Hon’ble Mr. Justice
A.P. Sahi, who is the Director of the National Judicial Academy, Bhopal. The
Foundation Day Event was followed by the Orientation Day for the newly inducted
batches. The Chief Guest for the same was Shri Sanjeev Sanyal, Principal
Economic Advisor to the Government of India. He addressed the students and
talked about the importance of the evolutionary nature of law. This was followed
by a question-and-answer interactive session between the students and Shri Sanyal.

The SBA, with the help of some 5 th year students, also organised a session on how
to attempt university examinations for the 1 st and 2nd year batches. This was done
keeping in mind that the students of these batches had only attended online classes
till that point and had never attempted a university level examination before.

Perhaps the most significant event of the academic year was the 11 th Convocation
Day, which was held on 20 November 2021. The SBA played a major role in
organising the event which saw students from the batches of 2018, 2019 and 2020
receive their degrees. The event was graced by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjay Kisan
Kaul, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Visitor of the NLIU, along with the Chief
Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court and the Chancellor of NLIU, Hon’ble
Mr. Justice Ravi Malimath. The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Shivraj

The SBA, in collaboration with the Legal Aid Clinic of NLIU, helped organise the
7th Constitution Day celebrations on 26 November 2021 in a hybrid mode. The
theme of the same was ‘Taking the Constitution to the People’. An intra university
constitutional law debate on the topic ‘Right to Protest Should Be Limited for
Allowing the Free Movement of the Citizens’ was also organised on the occasion.

Post the re-opening of the University, the SBA also organised an Open House
Discussion which saw attendance from all batches, the Vice Chancellor, members
of the faculty as well as members of the administrative staff. Many issues of
immediate concern were discussed at the Open House and it was resolved that such
discussions would be held more regularly to take stock of things in the University.

On 5 March 2022, the SBA, with the help of Mr. Amit Pratap Singh (Asst.
Professor, NLIU) and along with Sangath Bhopal, organised a session on Trans
and Disability Rights. Sangath Bhopal is a mental health organisation working
closely with Madhya Pradesh’s helath department, AIIMS, Harvard Medical
school as well as other key stakeholders. The session was conducted by Dr. Aqsa
Shaikh, who spoke on ‘Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare in India: Trans Rights
and Reproductive Justice’ and Dr. Satendra Singh, who spoke on ‘Improved
Accessibility and Empowerment of the Disabled Community’.

The SBA continues to carry out its regular day-to-day business which includes
creating a bridge between the students and the administration, helping both of them
to resolve issues as well as ensuring the welfare of the entire student community.
