Today, we are at the Beyazit Campus of Istanbul University.

Öğrencilere, öğrenci hayatıyla ilgili sorular soracağız.

We are going to ask students questions about student life.

Yes… Student life of Istanbul.

İstanbul biraz, hatta çok büyük bir şehir. Metropol.

Istanbul is a little, or actually a very big city. A metropolis.

O yüzden öğrenci hayatı biraz zor.

That is why student life is a little difficult.

İstanbul'da öğrenci hayatı birçokları için zor.

Student life in Istanbul is difficult for many.

Benim için o kadar da zor değil çünkü ailemle yaşıyorum

It's not very difficult for me because I live with my family

İşte evde sıcak yemeğim var kalacak yerim var...

I have hot meals at home, a place to stay…

Benim için gayet güzel.

It’s pretty good for me.

Ama tabii çok fazla zorluk çeken arkadaşlarım var.

But of course, I have friends who go through many hardships.

Life as a student is good in Istanbul.

If you don’t have economic problems

Istanbul is perfect for a student.

You can do anything you want.
Bütün aktivitelere katılabilirsin.
You can join all activities.

Being a student is both easy and hard in Istanbul.

Istanbul being a very expensive city

İstanbul'un çok pahalı bir şehir olması.

is the reason why it’s hard.

Güzel yanlarıysa her imkana sahipsin.

On the plus side, you have every possibility.

You can do anything you want.

Gece hayatı var, turistik yerler var, tarihi yerler var.

There is nightlife, touristic attractions, historic sites.

Life as a student in Istanbul

hem bir açıdan zor hem de bir açıdan kolay.

is difficult on one hand and also easy on the other hand.

Kolaylığı şu, çok fazla imkanımız var.

The easy aspect is, we have lots of opportunities.

Sinema olsun, tiyatro olsun, eğlence olsun

Whether it’s cinema, theater, entertainment

ya da eğitim açısından da hani. Kütüphanelerdir falan

or about education, you know. Libraries or so

hani destekleyebileceğimiz çok şey var

I mean we have lots of things to promote

ama maddi açıdan biraz sıkıntılı.

but it’s a little rough financially.

Peki seni İstanbul'da en çok zorlayan şey ne?

So what is the hardest thing about Istanbul for you?
Kesinlikle kalabalık.
Absolutely the crowd.

Ev kiralarının fiyatları çok yüksek.

The rents are too high.

Zaten İstanbul genel olarak bir insan için pahalı bir şehir.
İstanbul is already a generally expensive city for a person.

Aynı zamanda bu bir öğrenci olunca iş daha da zorlaşıyor.

If that (person) is a student as well, it gets much harder.

Daha da pahalı bir hâle geliyor

(It) becomes more expensive

ve bir öğrencinin geçinmesi için çok kolay değil açıkçası

and frankly, it’s not too easy for a student to get by.

İstanbul'da beni ulaşım zorluyor

Istanbul’s transportation is the hardest thing for me

kalabalık olduğu için.

because it’s crowded.

Onun dışında pek zorlandığım bir şey yok.

Otherwise, I don’t have anything that strains me much.

Yolculuk süreleri uzun tabii. Öğrenciyi baya etkiliyor.

Trips are long of course. (It) affects students a lot.

Bazı arkadaşlar sırf yolu çekmemek için

Some friends skip school, just because

they can’t stand the trips. The general issue of Istanbul

There are school activities, (the student) does that.

Spor olsun, işte konser olsun. İstanbul zaten

Sports, or concerts. After all, Istanbul is

her türlü etkinlik açısından şahane bir yer yani.

a fantastic place for every kind of activity.

Bir öğrenci İstanbul'da her şeyi yapabilir.

A student can do everything in Istanbul.

Çünkü her şey var. Konser, tiyatro, sinema

Because there is everything. Concerts, theaters, cinema

if you are interested in these as social activities.

Gece hayatı istiyorsanız zaten var.

If you want nightlife, it’s already there.

for my friend, I can say we prefer Beşiktaş.

Personally, what do you prefer to eat in Istanbul?

İstanbul'da öğrenciler bence, yani benim gördüğüm kadarıyla

Students in Istanbul, I mean as far as I see

en ucuz ne varsa onu yemeyi tercih ediyorlar.

prefer to eat whatever is cheap.

Bense, kendim evde hazırlamayı tercih ediyorum.

I, on the other hand, prefer to prepare (meals) at home.

Daha çok sağlıklı

I prefer to eat healthy

evde yapılan yemekleri yemeyi tercih ediyorum.

homemade meals more.

Genel olarak, ya o okul çevresiyle alakalı bir şey biraz da.

In general, actually that’s also something concerning the school environment.

Bizim okulun çevresinde işte tavuk pilavcılar

Around our school, like chicken pilaf (*rice with chicken) kitchens

çiğ köfte dürümcüler, daha böyle tavuk yemekleri falan.

raw meatball roll kitchens, more like chicken meals.

O tarz şeyler yiyorum ben de genellikle okul civarındayken.

I eat those kinds of stuff while around school.

Şimdi, ya genel olarak fast-food tüketiyoruz ya

Now, we generally consume fast-food

I mean fast and convenient, quick.

I prefer preparing my own food, but generally

More economical, what’s more to say

Peki, kendini mezun olunca nerede görüyorsun?

So, where do you see yourself when you graduate?

Şöyle, ben hukuk okuyorum.

So, I’m a law student.

Bizde mezun olur olmaz

Among us, right after you graduate

eğer avukat olmak istiyorsan

if you want to become a lawyer

bir sene staj yapman gerekiyor.

you need to do internship for a year.

Zorunlu bir staj dönemi var. Onu yapacağım.

There’s a mandatory internship term. I’ll do that.

Ben avukat olmayı düşünüyorum.

I’m planning to become a lawyer.

Ondan sonra da gerekli şeylere göre

And then towards necessary things

I mean whatever comes my way

ona göre bir plan çizmeye çalışacağım.

I’ll draw my path according to that.

I think it will be lawyership at the end.

Ben hukuk okuyorum İstanbul Üniversitesi'nde.

I’m a law student in Istanbul Univeristy.

Mezun olduktan sonra, akademisyen olmak istiyorum.

After I graduate, I want to become an academician.

I am undecided. Even though I'm a senior I'm very undecided.

Let me answer like this, a lawyer successful in my field.

I want to become a successful legist in my field.

I think I can.

Ya müthiş bir tempo içerisinde kendimizi kaybedeceğiz

Either we will lose ourselves at a great pace
