Cardigan “Sweetheart” by

Elize’s Haakwerkjes
•  First of all thank you for coming to my
page. I would like to say I’m not a pro. I
design as I crochet. So the techniques are
my own style. You can always change
things if you don’t like it. These are my
notes and I only share what and how I
did it. J
•  Now let’s get started!
What you need (to know):
•  8 x Drops air (I used color 20)

•  Hook size 5.0 mm

•  You need to know the “moss” stitch, the

“alpine” stitch and “mattress” stitch

•  The Cardigan is size 7-10 years (I don’t know

how to make it bigger or smaller, sorry)
This is the heart
part. After the
last row you
continue
making a new
heart. I did this
till I reached 4
hearts. You can
add more or
less hearts if
you like.
It should look like this.
Make 5 of these parts.
•  After you finished these 5 parts crochet these
parts together with 1 row of the “moss” stitch.

•  Then continue working up with 16 rows of the

“alpine” stitch.

•  If you don’t know these stitches you can find

the instructions of these stitches on YouTube.
It should look like this
Now we’re gonna make
the parts that should
come between the
heart parts.

Make this part with

hdc and chain. You can
see on the diagram
what I did. You should
increase at the end of
row 4.

Do the same increase

at the end of the rows
7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25,
28, 31, 34, 37 and 40.

You’re finished after

row 42.

Make this part 4 times.

•  After finishing these
4 parts I crocheted on
the side parts a row
of the “moss” stitch.
This will make the
sharp edges of the
increases more soft.
On the picture you
can see what I mean.
•  Left is without the
“moss” stitch and
right with the “moss”
stitch
Now
crochet
these parts
between the
heart parts
as in the
picture.

I did this
with the
“mattress“
stitch.
After you’re finished it should look like this
For the next
part above the
“alpine” stitch
I forgot to take
a picture so I
made this
drawing. If
you take a
closer look I
think you will
understand
what I did.
It should look
like this after
you’re finished
We’re gonna use this diagram
again. But now for the sleeves.
Now start with a chain of 26 + 2

After the first 3 rows find the

middle and start a heart.

After the last row with the bobble

stitch increase (with 1) at the end
of the row above. Continue and
increase every 5th row (with 1).
After increasing 7 times continue
without increasing for 18 rows.

Increase at the end of every row

the next 4 rows.

Crochet 1 row without increasing.

The next 12 rows we will decrease

at the end of every row.
You’re sleeve
should look like
this.

After this crochet a

row (“moss” stitch)
to the sides from
the start till the
row where you
began decreasing.
It makes it easier
for me to crochet
these parts
together and also
smoothening the
sharp edges of the
increases.
It should look like
this now.

Now crochet the sides

together till the part
where you decreased.
The sleeves are now
ready to be attached to
the body part! J
•  Now crochet 8 rows “moss” stitch in the round (from the bottomcorner to
the neck and to the other bottomcorner). I didn’t crochet these rows under
the heart parts because the cardigan would be too long.

•  After the 8 rows “moss” stitch I started in the middle of the neck with
making a shell edging hdc (diagram below). This time the shell edging I
crocheted also under the heartparts. So, I did this edging on the whole
cardigan.

•  I did this edging also on the sleeves.

For the little belt at the back I crocheted a straight part with the
“moss” stitch for 4 rows. You can always make it bigger is you
like. I did the edging with the same “shell” diagram as before.
After that I added two buttons on it and crocheted the belt to
the “alpine” stitch part only to the sides.
Now your cardigan is ready!
I hope you enjoyed making
this cardigan.
