1st Himaya Christmas Choral Competition

CRITERIA AND RULES OF JUDGING

Group Eligibility

 The choral must consist of a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 members.

 The participating choral can be of children, youth, adult, church-based or any community groups and may be
directed by a choir master.
 Costume and props may be used.
 Failure to meet this standard may result in disqualification of the group from competition, or forfeiture of awards.
 The decision of the panel of judges is final and irrevocable.
Required Music Standards

 Each group is required to provide two (2) copies of the musical pieces to be submitted to the facilitators 3 days
before the contest.
 Musical instruments and paraphernalia may be used and should be provided by the group.
 Each group should include “Himaya sa Diyos” of any version of choice as mandatory rendition of the choral piece.
 The choir may perform any Christmas carols or medley. It can be original or composition, in English, Filipino or
Hiligaynon.

Judging Criteria and Scoring System

SCORES
Musicianship Technical ability in music, including intonation, phrasing, pitch, dynamics, 40%
diction, and ensemble singing (how well the group sings together; coherence)
and choice of song.
Presentation Includes memorization, stage presence, choreography, acapella singing, 25%
props and costume, accompaniment (and how accompanying musical
instruments are featured)
Interpretation Christmas songs/hymns are sung/chanted with an appropriate and unique 15%
style. Audience impact included.
“Himaya Sa Diyos” Unique interpretation and chants of the song including music accompaniment 20%
song delivery and choreography
TOTAL: 100%

Time Limits and Deductions

Each choral group will be allotted a maximum time of twelve (12) minutes for their performance. Timing begins once the
group has begun singing their first piece. Unless technical difficulties arise beyond the control of the group, any choral
group exceeding 30 seconds the maximum time allotted will be penalized a 5-point deduction from the total score.

Champion P 15,000

1st runner -up P 10,000

2nd runner - up P 5,000

NOTE:

 The contest will start at 6 pm. Participating groups must be at the venue one hour before for the blockings,
technical rehearsals, and final instructions. Time will be strictly observed.
 Aside from the contestants, the group may bring only one chaperone for public health safety and accommodation
purposes.
