The Effect of Blue Light Exposure on The Screen of Handphones and Gadget

In this era, we can do many things only through mobile phones, to interact with laptop
and smartphone screens to work or study from home. But in fact, if you use your cellphone or
laptop too much, it can have an impact on our health. this is due to the blue light produced by
handphones, laptops, computers and other gadgets. Blue light is light that has a shorter
wavelength and a higher energy than other colors. When the amount of blue light is large, the
blue light can be harmful to eye health.

Experts call blue light can have an impact on eye fatigue or what we know as computer
vision syndrome. This syndrome affects most computer users with the characteristics of dry
eyes, irritation and blurred vision. Blue light can also damage the retina or phototoxicity. This
damage also depends on the wavelength and time of exposure. So the presence of a filter that
can help cut out most of the blue light can reduce damage.

Interacting too long with gadget screens at night can cause difficulty sleeping. This is
because blue light from electronic devices can disrupt sleep cycles. This will signal the brain
to wake up when it should be resting at night. So it's best to turn off digital devices at least 3
hours before bedtime.

In addition, blue light can also have an impact on children. Because children's eyes do
not filter blue light as well as adult eyes. Looking at your device screen too much can
increase your chances of developing obesity, nearsightedness, and attention-focusing
problems. Therefore, you should limit the time your child accesses electronic devices.

The conclusion is that even though we all day or often stare at the screen of our
gadgets, we still pay special attention so that our health is maintained. We can keep the
viewing distance between the eyes and the screen of the gadget about 30-40 cm, and the
screen is lower than the eye position. Then you can adjust the dark and light on the gadget
screen according to the room. Also don't forget to blink so your eyes don't dry out. Then the
last is to keep or turn off electronic devices a few hours before going to bed.
