Learning Objective K.9 The student will demonstrate comprehension of fictional

texts.
-Discuss characters, setting, and events.
Complete the sentence below:

In this interactive white board activity, the children will touch the board to move and
sort various pictures under character or not a character and learn about what examples
of a character in a literary work would be.
Activity For this lesson, we will begin by discussing what characteristics
make a character and we will then learn the song Characters
and Setting (YouTube- Learn to Read).

I would then have various books available and allow students

to pick a book and have a turn to each share who one of the
characters would be in their book.

After this activity, students would see the whiteboard which

begins with an introduction to character followed by the book
(as an example) Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus. We will
proceed by reading the book Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the
Bus by: Mo Willems. I would encourage the students to pay
attention to the main characters of the story which are the
pigeon and the bus driver- making sure to have the students
pay attention to the actions of the characters and reflect on
their role in the story as opposed to other elements (i.e.
setting, etc.), so that they can get a grasp on the characters’
role in the book.

Then, students will enjoy a fun and interactive whiteboard

activity during which they get to move various items into the
correct column Character or Not Character. They will surely
enjoy sorting these objects as they can secure the concept of
what makes a character and what does not.
