Apple Macintosh Keyboard Shortcuts:

Getting out of freezes

Turns your computer on and off.


Your work will be saved before the
computer shuts down.

Cancels an operation in progress.

Forces a program to quit. Unsaved


work will be lost.

Restarts or shuts down the


computer (on some models).
Unsaved work will be lost.

Forces the computer to restart


when the pointer is frozen (on
some models). Unsaved work will
be lost.

Starting up

To start up the computer with one of the options in the right column below,
hold down these keys while starting up.

Rebuilds the Desktop file.

Turns off extensions in the


Extensions folder.

Resets Chooser and control panel


settings stored in parameter RAM.

Starts up the computer from a CD.

Working with icons

Letter keys Selects the icon whose name


begins with the letters typed.

Selects the icon above, below, to


the left, or to the right of the
selected icon.

Selects the next icon

Drag across icons Selects all icons in the group.

Opens the icon and closes its


Double-click icon
window.

Drag icon to folder Copies the icon to the folder.

Highlights the name of the selected

Moves selected icons to the Trash.

Working with windows

Close close box Closes all disk and folder windows.

key combination, click the window
you want to take a picture of.)

Note: To copy a rectangle or


window to the Clipboard instead of
saving it as a file, press the Control
key as you select the part of the
screen you want.

These shortcuts work on systems with WorldScript installed.
