Working with Navigation Buttons


In most windows, three buttons appear on the right
side of the title bar. You have learned that these are
called sizing buttons. They are also called navigation
QUICK buttons.

MINIMIZE BUTTON
The first button on the right side of the title bar is the Minimize
button . When you click on it, you hide the window. Thus you can
see only the program icon on the taskbar.
You minimize a window when two or more windows are open on
the screen.

When a window has been minimized, its icon on the taskbar will
be dim.

MAXIMIZE BUTTON
The middle button is the Maximize button . When you click on
it, you enlarge the minimized window. This window then fills the whole
display area of the desktop.
You maximize a window to make a file or a program ready to be
used again. You may maximize it also when it is too small to work with.

When a window is maximized, the Maximize button changes to
the Restore button . When you click on the Restore button, you
bring a window back to its previous size. When you do this, the Restore
button returns to the Maximize button .

CLOSE BUTTON
The third button is the Close button . This button is also known
as the Exit button. When you want to close a window, you click on the
Close button.

As a window is closed, its icon on the taskbar disappears.

 The desktop serves as the working area on the screen. Its two
main parts are the icon and the taskbar.

 An icon represents a file, a folder, or a program in a


computer.

 The taskbar shows buttons that represent tools and programs


in a computer.

 The taskbar has several areas: the Start button, the Quick
Launch area, the Notification area, and the Show Desktop
button.

 The parts of a window are the title bar, the sizing buttons, the
menu bar, the display area or work space, the scroll bars,
and the borders.

 On the right side of the title bar are the sizing or navigation
buttons. These are the Minimize, Maximize, Restore, and Close
buttons.
