A. INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT – PROJECT SCENARIO:

Fukita Corporation, a multi-national manufacturing company founded quite recently in the

year 2002 in China has grown significantly huge and has been monopolizing the bicycle
manufacturing industry within China since then, with an overall market share of 75%. On
top of being a leading manufacturer, the company is also well known as the Original
Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for related equipment.

With the current monopoly in China, the company is now looking towards expanding and
monopolizing the global market. In-order to make it happen, the company would need to
clearly understand its current global business performance, inclusive of its resellers and e-
commerce performance.

To ensure the highest clarity in relation to the company’s performance, they have decided
to implement a Business Intelligence System approach to assist them in understanding the
overall performance of the business. The output of the system would enable them to
support their business decision making process.

You have been appointed by the company to lead this initiative as a Business Intelligence
Consultant. To enable a detailed understanding of the current performance of the
company, you have decided to implement a multi-Dimensional modelling approach with a
business analytics solution for the company. This approach will be conducted on the
company’s current data warehouse resources and the outcome will be presented to the
Senior Leadership of Fukita Corporation so that they can better understand the business's
overall sales performance as well as provide new insights and recommendations to the
company on ways to improvise the overall performance.

B. ASSIGNMENT REQUIREMENT:
 Project Requirement: Implementation of Business Intelligence solution that
contains:
a. Data Extraction: Extraction of data from the company’s data warehouse
(SQL Server Management Studio)
b. Modelling: Designing and deploying a multi-dimensional model and
implementation of business analytics by using analytical tools (Visual
Studio with SQL Data Tools package & SQL Server Analysis Services,
SSAS).
c. MDX Calculation: Creating MDX query to extend cube capabilities.
d. Business Analytics: Design and creation of visualization dashboard.

 Report Requirement: Documentation on the Business Intelligence Processes &

that includes:
a. Introduction: Evaluation on Business Intelligence System.
b. Aims & Objectives: Discussing the aims and objectives of the BI Project.
c. Methodology: Discussion of the appropriate methodology.
d. Insights Creation: Critically evaluate and analyse the findings obtained
through the visualization dashboard.
e. Strategies & Recommendations: Provide relevant strategies and
recommendations of the findings.

 Presentation Requirement: Individual presentation of the Business Intelligence

Project that includes:
a. Overview of the company and its current situation.
b. Business intelligence project approach.
c. Analysis of the visualization findings.
d. Conclusion.

C. FORMATTING REQUIREMENTS:

1. This is an Individual assignment.

2. The length of the report should not exceed 3,500 words (+- 10%).
3. The report should have a word count at the end.
4. The report should be prepared using font type: Times New Roman, font size: 12
(except titles and headings), 1.5 line spacing and with justify alignment.
5. The report must be well presented and should be typed. Submission of reports that
are unprofessional in its outlook will not fare well when marks are allocated.
6. The report should consist of your own work. Any ideas extracted from other
sources must be referenced and cited within the report (APA Referencing).
7. Deliverables: Students are required to submit the followings on MOODLE:
7.1. Project Files.
7.2. Report Documentation.
7.3. Presentation Slides.
8. Class Presentation:
8.1. Presentation is compulsory to all students. Each student will be given 10 –
15 minutes to complete the assignment presentation.
8.2. Student can use any of the presentation software, e.g. Microsoft
PowerPoint.
9. The format of the report must contain the following:
9.1. Cover Page
9.2. Table of Contents
9.3. Main Body
 The core part of the report.
9.4. Conclusion
 A summary of the findings. It must not contain any references. The
conclusion is to highlight back all the important findings. Please do
not bring any new facts and ideas that had not being discussed in any
part of the assignment.
9.5. Citation and References (APA Format)

MARKING CRITERIA:

The report will contribute 30%, and the presentation will contribute 10% towards the in-
course assessment, as mentioned in the Student Assessment Information Sheet (SAIS).
The report must contain the marking grid (Report & Presentation) as per the sample
given below, which should be printed after the cover page as 2nd page of the assignment.

F. MARKING CRITERIA:

Distinction

This grade will be assigned to work where the content depicts the student’s clear
understanding of the Business Intelligence System. The report displayed a high level of
development and analysis carried out and discussed using relevant examples of the report.
The content of the report is supported with detailed evidence. The report should be
documented in a professional manner, without any spelling and grammar mistakes. In
order, to obtain a grade at this level, the student should be able to present oral arguments
in a clear and cogent manner as well as answer most questions confidently.

Credit

This grade will be assigned to work where the content depicts the student’s fair
understanding of the Business Intelligence System. The report displayed an average level
of development and analysis carried out and discussed using relevant examples of the
report. The content of the report should be supported with fair detailed evidence. The
report should be documented in an acceptable manner, providing some basic information.
In order, to obtain a grade at this level, the student should be able to present adequately
some oral arguments as well as answer questions with an average level of confidence.

Pass

This grade will be assigned to work where the content depicts the student’s low level of
understanding of the Business Intelligence System. The report displayed minimal analysis
and evaluation carried out and presented with less discussion and few examples provided.
A low level of research has been conducted and shown very little evidence. Satisfactory
level of documentation presented. In order to obtain a grade at this level, the student could
briefly explain the work done and be able to answer some questions asked.

Fail

This grade will be assigned to work where the content depicts the student’s poorest level
of understanding of the Business Intelligence System. The report shows poor analysis and
evaluation carried out and presented with no discussion and no supporting examples. Poor
level of documentation presented and student not being able to explain the work done and
not able to answer any question asked.

Please take note that Plagiarism is a serious offence and will be treated strictly as
per rules and regulations of APU.

You are required to submit your assignment on MOODLE Platform before 11.59
p.m. on the submission date.
