pink, blue, and red ribbons with lengths 0.2 m, 0.48 m, 0.3
m, and 0.15 m respectively. How long are the yellow and
blue ribbons if put together?

 Let the pupils identify the lengths of the yellow and blue
ribbons.
Ask:
 Which ribbon is longer? Blue or Pink? (Pink)
 What is the color of the longest ribbon? (Pink)
(Note: Integrate the concepts of Degrees of
Comparison of adjectives-English)
 Let each pair of pupils bring out 1 strip of paper to represent 1
meter.
 Let the pupils fold the strip of paper into 10 equal parts.

the shaded part. Let them shade 0.15 m with red or any dark
color.

DISCUSSIONS:
Adding and subtracting decimals is similar to the process of
adding and subtracting whole numbers.
To add or subtract decimal numbers:
1. Arrange the digits in columns and align the decimal points.
2. Insert zeros in empty decimal place values (if needed) so that all
of the numbers have the same number of decimal places.
3. Add or subtract as with whole numbers.
4. Place the decimal point between the digits vertically aligned to all
the addends, subtrahend and minuend.
