Doubling of Bacteria

The bacteria are doubling its population every hour. If the starting population are
composed of 2 bacteria. List all the bacteria’s population from 1st hr to 10 hr.

You decide to start saving Php 20.00 everyday starting tomorrow. How much
money you will have on the 1st to 10th day of saving?

Pass the message.

One person will send a message to two people. Those two people will send or
forward the same message to another two different people. Find the 1 st to 10th
term of the given problem to know how many people will receive the same
message after the 10 cycle.

Inflation

The inflation on our economy is very evident that’s why the price of goods were
continuously increasing specially the price of rice. On last January 2023, the
Price of rice is Php1000 per sack containing 25kg. On February, the price of rice
became Php1050 and it continue to increase by a fixed amount which is Php 50
until the month of August 2023. List all the prices of rice from January to
August, 2023.

Paper Folding

On one whole sheet of paper, fold the paper into 1 and count the numbers of
rectangles created without overlapping the answer is 2 rectangles. After the 1 st
fold you must do the 2nd fold which will give you 4 rectangles and so on. List all
the possible # of rectangles formed after folding from 1st to 6th fold.

Planting Trees

To replace the trees destroyed by typhoon Yolanda, the forestry department of


Tagaytay has developed a 10 year plan. During the first year they will plant 100
trees. Each succeeding year, they will plant 50 more trees than they planted the
year before. Complete the table.

E. Analysis Answer the following guide questions:

1. Is there a pattern on the given problems? If there is, describe it.

2. Is there a common ratio or common difference? What is it?

3. Which type of sequence did you form? Why did you say so?

4. How can you differentiate your answer to other groups?

5. What is the difference between arithmetic sequence and geometric sequence?

F. Abstraction The teacher will discuss the topic.

Arithmetic sequence has common difference while Geometric sequence has a


common ratio.

Arithmetic sequence is a sequence where you need to add a fixed/constant


term called the common ratio to obtain the next term while geometric sequence
is a sequence where you need to multiply a constant term called the common
ration to obtain the next term provided that r must not be equal to 0.

Ex.

1. 5,10,20,40,80 (Geometric r=2)

2. 8, 15, 22,29,36 (Arithmetic d=7)

3. 1, 4, 9, 16, 25 ( Neither Geometric nor Arithmetic)

G. Application Make a Venn Diagram about the differences and similarities of arithmetic and
geometric sequence.
