FINAL CONCEPT
PROBLEM-
Smartphone manufacturers spend
a lot of time and money on R&D
to be the first, to come up with
true seamless display (without
any notch or punch-hole). A lot of
companies came up with unique
solutions to this problem, but
none of them really stuck, as they
were mere work-arounds for this
problem and not permanent
solutions.

PUNCH-HOLE AND
NOTCH IN A DISPLAY
History

The first smartphone with a capacitive touch display was

surrounded by bezels on the top and bottom.
Smartphone manufacturers have been trying to make the
entire front of the smartphone to screen.
With advancements in technology, the size of these bezels
reduced over the years.
Samsung's S9+, with its infinity display, had the slimmest
bezels until 2018.
When iPhone introduced, the iPhone X, with new
technology, made the entire front of the phone into the
screen, except for the notch on the top, as the camera
and other sensors were still taking up space on the screen.
Samsung's with S10+ reduced it to a small pill-shaped
punch-hole consisting of cameras.

SOLUTION:

Under-display camera
Use Pixel-Shrinking technology to
cover and uncover the front camera,
based on the use. This tech has been
used in Samsung's Z-fold 3, Mi Mix 4
and ZTE Axon 30 and will be used by
various other smartphone companies
in the future.
