A firm believer of the line “Inspiration is everywhere”, Masaba
Gupta is the daughter of Indian actress Neena Gupta and
legendary West Indian cricketer Sir Vivian Richards. Until 16
years of age, Masaba aspired to be a tennis player but then
went on to explore her creative energy through music and
dance. She then channelised the same into designing clothing
that stood out from the existing styles and silhouettes. Even
then, her love for all these three artforms goes hand in hand. In
the present day scenario, Masaba Gupta is one of the top
designers in India and is globally appreciated for her marvellous

The beginning...

Masaba started off early, at the ripe age of 19. With a degree in Apparel
Manufacturing and Design, she started off with styles she really resonated
with as a person. She had a story to tell, and she made sure she conveyed
it through her design. At first, fashion was never on her radar but she
wished to find her footing in the dance world. After winning a few
important awards in her college days, Masaba realised that fashion was
her calling. Over time, she honed the skill of combining and balancing
creativity, functionality and commercial viability to run her brand ‘House
of Masaba’.

In a recent conversation with Filmfare, Masaba got candid about her dating life
after her divorce from her ex-husband, Madhu Mantena. Recalling one of her
worst dates, Masaba revealed that once, she was judged by the way she was
eating sizzlers. She said the person was making her feel uncomfortable about
herself for eating potato and rice ‘muh kohl ke’. In her words:

Recently, the designer shared a screenshot of a comment that trolled her, “You
look so bad… It’s an irony that you are in the fashion and entertainment
industry,” it read. But, the bold and beautiful, Masaba didn’t take the rubbish
from the user and instantly hit back by calling the comment cute. She added
that any industry is based on talent and not looks, it is also built on crazy hard
work and wild discipline. “As for my face, that’s just a pretty bonus (as is my
mind that is as sharp as a knife and your b******* wouldn’t get past it even if
you tried),” she wrote.

acne since she was a teenager. she took to her
Instagram handle and shared a picture of herself
when she was 12-years-old and started getting
acne on her face. She also added that she didn’t
want to look into a mirror for years and wrote, “What
would you tell a 12-year-old who didn’t want to look
into a mirror for years.
