EARLY LIFE:

• Gupta is the daughter of West Indies cricketer Sir Viv Richards and Indian
actress Neena Gupta and grew up in Mumbai. Her parents never married, and
she was raised by her mother, who moved the family from New Delhi to Mumbai.
Gupta found a father figure in her late maternal grandfather, and when she turned
20, she reconnected with her father and the two now share a strong bond.
• At the age of 8 she wanted to become a tennis player but stopped training at 16.
Passionate about dance and music, Gupta wanted to join Shiamak Davar's
dance group, but did not when her mother discouraged it. She subsequently took
up a course in music and dance in London, but dropped out when she felt lonely
and homesick
• Gupta later joined Premlila Vithaldas Polytechnic of Shreemati Nathibai
Damodar Thackersey Women's University.
CAREER:

• At 19, Gupta applied for Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai with support from Wendell
Rodricks. She named her first collection Kattran .Her Lakme Fashion Week 2014
collection "Wanderess" was "inspired by novelist Roman Payne’s doe-eyed gypsy girl
character, Saskia" in his novel, The Wanderess. Gupta has become known for the
creative and artistic names she gives each collection.
• Gupta's design aesthetic has been defined as a blend of contemporary and traditional
with modernity taking the upper hand.. The Mumbai daily broadsheet dna remarked
her work has "a unique Indianness in a very modern context", citing her "Tamil script
sarees and jackets" and the way she uses cotton and muslin .Gupta was named one of
the "Ten best Indian fashion designers you should know", by Culture Tripp, a magazine
style internet publication.
• In 2016, Gupta collaborated with Maybelline New York to produce a collection of
clothes inspired by a new lipstick line that the company was launching, but the project
fell through for a variety of logistical reasons. She has stated that the biggest regret of
her career was her Stylista collection.
ACHIEVEMENTS

• Masaba is a fashion designer in her own right.


She has had a great journey so far and has
won awards - Best Emerging Designer by
Cosmopolitan (2010) and Marie Claire (2011) to
one of India’s most promising talents by Vogue
Italia (2015) at a very young age.
• In February 2019, Masaba received the ‘Business
Excellence & innovation Best Practise’ award from the
then Prime Minister of India, Dr.Manmohan Singh.
FACTS

• She was born on 2nd November 1988


• She holds a degree in apparel manufacture and design.
• Her hobbies are playing tennis, listening musics and
dancing.
• Her grandfather , R.N Gupta, wad a Sanskrit scholar and
had done M.Phil in this subject.
• She is the first Indian Designer to do an Instagram show.
She claims that 60% of her sale are done through
whatsapp.
• On 28th August 2020,an Indian web television series was
primiered on Netflix based on the life of Masaba Gupta.
MASABA MASABA

• In 2019, Netflix announced a new TV Series


starring Gupta and her mother, actress Neena
Gupta.
• In 2020, Masaba Gupta shared the screen for the
first time with her mother Neena Gupta in the
Netflix show, Masaba Masaba, a semi fictional
series in which the duo show glimpses of their
lives with fashion and film.
• The series is a scripted version of the life of
Masaba Gupta. Masaba and her mother, Neena
Gupta, play fictionalized versions of themselves.
HOUSE OF MASABA

• Masaba Gupta’s namesake label comes with its own


revolutionary quirks.
• Masaba’s designs are fierce, bold and the strength of
their design lie in its unique color and silhouette
sensibility that marry Indian and modern in a perfect
mix.
