Beginner’s Course Day 13

Session 13
KNOWLEDGE: Students will know & understand:
1. Introduction to a 5-Note Pattern on the C scale:
Learning Outcomes a. With Right hand -
i. In the Middle Octave
ii. In the Descending Order
System:
1. PC/Laptop with a working mic and front camera.
2. A 49/61-keys keyboard/digital piano.
Requirements 3. A working Internet connection.
Practice:
1. Self-Practice - 15-20 minutes a day to make rapid progress.
Qualifying Knowledge Prerequisites for this lesson include:

● Introduction to Piano and Keyboard:


a. Musical Alphabet and Key Names
b. Finger Number System for Piano/Keyboard - Left and
Right Hand
c. Notes of the C scale
● The concept of Octave:
a. Understanding an octave
b. Understanding Middle Octave and Lower Octave
● 5-Note Pattern on the C scale:
a. With Right hand -
i. In the Middle Octave
ii. In the Ascending Order

Day 13:
● Introduction to a 5-Note Pattern on the C scale:

Points to be taken care of:


1. Make sure that all the students grasp and understand the topics
discussed.
2. For gifted students, the facilitator may ask them to practice with
Addressing classroom eyes closed/without looking at the keyboard.
diversity 3. For slow learners, the facilitator may follow a more broken-down
approach in which a concept can be further broken down into
smaller concepts and then combined to create the final idea.
4. For differently abled students, the facilitator may ignore little
mistakes, may call parents at regular intervals and motivate
them to continue their learning process.
Day 13:
The Transaction
1. Introduction to a 5-Note Pattern on the C scale:
○ With Right hand - In the Middle Octave
○ In the Descending Order

Step 1:

i. For the descending order, we are going to begin


from the note where we ended our ascending
order, i.e. the ‘C note’ which comes at the end of
the C scale.
ii. Starting with your little finger on the last C note of
the C scale in the middle octave, slowly play each
key in reverse, one finger at a time till we reach
the F note.

Step 2:

iii. When you reach the F note with your thumb on it,
shift all your fingers to the left by one white key.
iv. So, now, the little finger goes on B, ring finger on
A, middle on the G note, and so on.
v. Starting with your little finger, slowly play each
key in reverse, one finger at a time till we reach
the E note.

Step 3:

vi. When you reach the E note with your thumb on


it, shift all your fingers to the left by one white
key.
vii. So, now, the little finger goes on A, ring finger on
G, middle finger on the F note, and so on.
viii. Starting with your little finger, slowly play each
key in reverse, one finger at a time till we reach
the D note.

Step 4:

ix. When you reach the D note with your thumb on


it, shift all your fingers to the left by one white
key.
x. So, now, the little finger goes on G, ring finger on
F, middle finger on the E note, and so on.
xi. Starting with your little finger, slowly play each
key in reverse, one finger at a time till we reach
the C note, the root note of the C scale.

Assignments/ 1. The students would be required to practice:

i. With the right hand,
ii. In the Descending Order
iii. For at least 5 times each day till the next session.
Day 13:
1. Last 5 minutes of the session would be kept aside for a quick
Testing, brush-up of all the concepts discussed in the session.
Measurements 2. The facilitator may ask students a few questions to assess how
& Assessments  much the students have understood the concepts discussed in
the session.
