Workshop Practice NQF Level 5 Credits: 30

Course Description:
This course will enable students to have hands on practice using engineering tools and
equipment, build electronics and projects and apply proper handling, safety precautions and
correct workshop attitude in simulated real-world environment

4. Checking and Testing of different type of electronic Components used in electronic

Theoretical instructions:
• Working principle of a Transformer, uses of a Transformer; type of Transformers.
• Measuring instruments like Ammeter, Voltmeter, Wattmeter, Watt hour meter, Megger,
their description and uses.
• Single phase A.C. Two wire and three wire, 3 phase four wire A.C. systems over-head
systems and under-ground systems.
• Service connection, domestic lighting, Heating, mixed loads, Industrial wiring, Insulation
and wiring of Industrial Motors.
• Estimating and costing of materials.
Practical Instructions: -
• Servicing of A.C. Machines and their repairs.
• Construction of simple transformer.
• Rewinding of Transformer.
• Circuits, domestic, heating, lighting and mixed loads.
• Testing wiring insulation fault; rectification.
• Insulation and wiring of D.C. and A.C. single and three phase machines, fault
rectification.
• Use of electrical equipment in automobiles.
7. Multisim Circuit Simulation using and NI ELVIS platforms
• Configure and build circuits and (Programmable Logic Devices) PLD designs in Multisim.
• Simulate simple digital, analog and power electronic circuits.
• Deploy PLD designs to the (Field-Programmable Gate Array FPGA).
• Develop and analyze a circuit simulation, build a circuit on a breadboard, and measure it
using common instrumentation
