1.Objective

1.Familiarization with the work environment and challenges for an Industrial Electrician.
2. Familiarization to the principles, materials, components, and tools required.
3. Develop an end-to-end technical understanding to execute electrical works in industry.
4. Complying to the industry specifications, guidelines and safety standards during work.

3. Use wiring skills as per the wiring diagram.
4. Concept about installation and electrical inspection of equipment.

5.Course Contents

Module-1
Occupational Safety and Health Basic safety introduction(12hrs)

Personal protection. Basic injury prevention, Basic first aid, Hazard identification and
avoidance, safety signs for Danger, Warning, caution and personal safety message. Use of
Fire extinguishers. Various safety measures involved in the industry. Elementary first Aid.
Concept of Standard. Electrical Safety Practice, Electrical Symbols

 Practice: Safety Drill, Fire Safety Drill, Visit and observation of sections

Module-2
Tools, Tackles & Joints(10hrs)

Identification of Trade-Hand tools, Tackles – Specifications, Material Handling


Wires/cable & its specification. Types of wire joint, standard wire gauge. Specification of
wires and Common Electrical wiring Accessories.

 Practice: SOP of Tools & Tackles


 Practice: Wiring Joint Practical
 Practice: Solders, flux and soldering technique, Wire Jointing Techniques
Module-3
Electric wirings & Cables(12hrs)
Introduction to wiring symbols used in single and three phase electrical diagrams. Types of
wirings both domestic and industrial. Specifications for wiring, relevant span in wiring,
Voltage drop concept. Wiring system - P.V.C., concealed system. Specifications, standards
for conduits and accessories - Power Wiring, Control Wiring.
Type of cables (single/ 3 phase) used as per electrical load. Voltage grading of different types
of Insulators, Temp. Rise permissible, Selection and use of cable lugs, cable jointer and other
electrical accessories used for laying, terminating and joining cables. Cables-insulation,
Grading of cables; current ratings and voltage grades -Low, medium and high voltage
Precautions in using various types of cables,

 Practice: Testing of wiring installation by Insulation Resistance Tester


 Practice: laying out in Industrial/domestic wiring
Module-4
Earthing(8hrs)

Principle of different methods of earthing. i.e., Pipe, Plate, etc Importance of


Earthing. Improving of earth resistance, Earth Leakage circuit breaker (ELCB).
 Practice: Measurement of Earth Resistance.
 Practice: Layout & Construction of Earthing.

Module-5

Switches & Control Panel(10hrs)

contactors, relay, Use & specification of Fire alarm, MCB, ELCB, MCCB, Layout of
Control cabinet & Understand Layout drawing of control cabinet panel, power supply in
panel circuits

 Practice: Layout Design of Control Panel

Module – 6
Electrical Distribution Substation(8hrs)
Control Elements: Isolator, push-button switches, Indicating lamps, MCB, Fuse,
Contactor, Relays, Overload Relay, Timers, Limit switches, Isolators, Circuit Breaker,
Instrument Transformers.
 Practice: Visit to 33KV Distribution Substation & Field Work

Module – 7
Transformers(12hrs)
Working principle of Transformer. Classification, Auto Transformer (Variac),
Construction, Type of Cooling for transformer. Protective devices: buchholze relay,
Specifications, Winding techniques, Core & Coil Assembly, Final Box-up.
 Practice: Insulation Resistance Test of Transformers
 Practice: Winding Resistance Test of Transformer
 Practice: Manufacturing Process of Transformer
