Natural Rubber

What is Natural rubber?

Natural rubber is a natural polymer of organic compound isoprene obtained from the
bark of tropical and subtropical trees. The rubber came from white fluid obtained
from trees called latex.

History of Rubber

The first use of rubber was by the indigenous cultures of Mesoamerica. They made
the rubber from the natural latex of the Hevea tree. They use this rubber to make
balls for the Mesoamerican ballgame. Later rubber was used by the Maya and Aztec
cultures to make a container and to make textiles waterproof by impregnating them
with latex sap.

Physical properties of rubber

Rubber is a polymer 1,4 polyisoprene with a molecular weight of 100k to 1m daltons.

Monomer unit of rubber

The monomer of rubber is Isoprene.

To form a natural rubber or a polymer. It needs to be 1000 joins of isoprene units

to form a polymer or natural rubber.
