Design Of CFRP strengthening in beam

Beam width = 1295 mm

Design value of tensile strength, ff = 4900 Mpa = f*fu
Single layer thickness, tcfv = 0.337 mm = tf
Density = 1.8 g/cc
1800000 g/m3
Weight = Density * tcfv
= 1800000*0.337/1000
= 606.6 g/m2
After the load is increased, the area of the missing reinforcement = 2193 mm2
The carbon fiber cloth paste size is converted by the principle of equal strength substitution.
Design value of tensile strength of steel bar = 125 Mpa
Design value of tensile strength of carbon fiber cloth = 4900 Mpa
Lack of reinforcement area * design value of tensile strength of steel bar ≤ design value of
carbon fiber cloth thickness * width * design value of tensile strength of carbon fiber cloth
2193 * 125 ≤ 0.337 * width * 4900
274125 ≤ 1651.3 * width
width ≥ 166.01 mm < beam width, hence single layer is required.
No. of layers required = 1
If beam width cannot meet the carbon fiber cloth bonding width, we will consider bonding
multiple - layer carbon fiber cloth, and calculate the carbon fiber cloth multi-layer bonding
reduction factor.
Reduction factor = 1.16 - (paste layer number * elastic modulus design value * single layer
degree) / 308000 ≤ 0.9
Paste layer number, n = 1
Elastic modulus design value = 240000 Mpa
Single layer degree = 0.337 mm
Reduction factor = IF(1.16-(1*240000*0.337)/308000>0.9,0.9,1.16-(1*240000*0.337)/308000)
= 0.897 =K
Lack of reinforcement area * design value of tensile strength of steel bar ≤ design value of
carbon fiber cloth thickness * width * design value of tensile strength of carbon fiber cloth *
Reduction factor (K)
2193 * 125 ≤ 0.337 * width * 4900 * 0.897
274125 ≤ 1481.88 * width
width ≥ 184.98 mm/m < beam width, hence single layer is required. = Effective Bond
Length, Le
Width of carbon fibre provided = 1295 mm

Total width of carbon fibre provided = Width of carbon fibre provided * Paste layer number (n)
Total width of carbon fibre provided, w f = 1295*1
= 1295 mm > 184.98 mm
CFRP meets the strength requirements.
