Analysis on how Dell

Technologies
manage their
company and get
quality services
 DELL TECHNOLOGIES CEO BACKGROUND

Michael Dell
Michael Dell is chairman and chief executive officer of Dell Technologies, an
innovator and technology leader providing the essential infrastructure for
organizations to build their digital future, transform IT and protect their most
important information.

 With revenues of $94B and 158,000 team members, Dell Technologies is one of
the world’s largest IT companies serving the needs of global corporations and
governments to small businesses and consumers. The company's unique
structure allows innovative, fast-moving startups to co-exist with, and leverage, the
global reach and trusted reputation of the large enterprise.
 Michael’s story started when he founded Dell Technologies with $1000 in 1984 at
the age of 19. Notably quoted as saying that “technology is about enabling human
potential,” Michael’s vision of how technology should be designed, manufactured
and sold forever changed the IT industry. In 1992, Michael became the youngest
CEO ever to earn a ranking on the Fortune 500. Known and admired for his astute
business vision and bold moves, Michael took Dell Technologies private in 2013,
setting the stage to architect the largest technology deal in history with the
combination of Dell, EMC and VMware in 2016 and the subsequent relisting of
Dell Technologies on the public markets in 2018.
 In 1998, Michael formed MSD Capital, a private investment
firm that exclusively manages the capital for the Dell family.
And in 1999, he and his wife, Susan Dell, established the
Michael & Susan Dell Foundation to accelerate opportunity
for children growing up in urban poverty in the U.S., India
and South Africa.
 Michael is an honorary member of the Foundation Board of
the World Economic Forum and is an executive committee
member of the International Business Council. He is also a
member of the Technology CEO Council and the Business
Roundtable. He serves on the advisory board of Tsinghua
University's School of Economics and Management in
Beijing, China and on the governing board of the Indian
School of Business in Hyderabad, India. He is a board
member of Catalyst and also served as the United Nations
Foundation's first Global Advocate for Entrepreneurship.
 Dell Technologies is a Multinational Corporation
which is headquartered in the United States of
America. The company deals with computer
technology devices where it designs,
manufactures and distributes personal
computers and other complimentary products
and services. The company was formed in 1984
by Michael Dell and was initially referred to as
PCs Limited. When the company was formed,
they built the computers they sold from stock
components but made sure that the computers
were compatible with the IBM framework.
 However, this was changed in 1985 when
they started selling their own computer
designs. The first computer model that the
company designed and sold in 1985 was
called Turbo PC. These first models were
custom assembled according to customer
requests. In order to market their
computers, the company advertised them
in computer magazines that had a national
outlook. The company was however
rebranded to Dell Inc. in the year 2003 in
order to recognize the fact that the
company had expanded beyond their initial
computer sales business.
 Dell Technologies uses the power of the Dell Technologies infrastructure to
make hybrid cloud environments easier to manage. Built on VMware Cloud
Foundation, this Dell Technologies offering features a set of cloud infrastructure
solutions that provide a consistent operating model and simplified management
across private clouds, public clouds and edge locations. As a result, cloud
technology helps reduce barriers to cloud adoption and allows application and
business requirements to determine where workloads reside.

Dell Technologies Cloud includes:

> VCF on VxRail. A turnkey platform that lets enterprises run,
manage, automate and secure their entire application portfolio across multiple
clouds.
> Validated Designs. Best-of-breed infrastructure options with pre-tested
designs that are interoperable with VCF.
> VMware Cloud on Dell EMC. A fully managed Data Center-as-a-Service
solution that brings the simplicity and agility of the public cloud to data center
and edge locations.
> Partner Clouds. Access to the world’s largest cloud provider ecosystem with
more than 4,200 providers including AWS, Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
DELL CHALLENGES TO
OVERCOME
 Dell still has some serious challenges to
overcome if it’s to maintain its dominant
position, what with the unstoppable rise of cloud
computing, its complex portfolio of overlapping
products and reduced spending for on-premises
infrastructure putting it under pressure to keep
making gains in market share. And question
marks hang over its ability to innovate.
 Another key opportunity for Dell is the
emergence of “edge computing,” in which data
is increasingly being analyzed on-premise at
the edge of the network, on factory floors and
mobile devices and so on.
 Market share critical as enterprise spending slows

Overall, Dell’s business is going reasonably well.

During the event, Clarke pointed to some impressive
market share gains Dell has made over the last few
years, particularly in the PC, storage and server
markets. For example, Dell has gained 600 basis points
in PCs over the last six years and 375 basis points in
the storage market over the past two years.
