Remove Torque Converter, Transmission And Transfer Gears

START BY:

a. remove cab *

b. remove hydraulic tank **

c. remove supplemental steering pump **

d. remove parking brake **

e. remove parking brake chamber **

1. Remove bolt (5) and clip (2) that hold tube (1) to the bracket.

2. Loosen hose clamp (4), and remove tube (1), hose (6) and tube assembly (3) as a unit from the machine.

3. Remove the bolts from each end of hose assembly (11), and remove the hose assembly from the machine.

4. Remove the bolts from each end of hose assembly (9), and remove the hose assembly from the machine.

5. Remove the four bolts that hold tube assembly (13) to the diverter valve. Remove tube assembly (13),
hose (12) and tube assembly (8) as a unit from the machine.

6. Loosen hose clamp (10), and remove the four bolts that hold elbow (7) to the hydraulic pump. Remove
elbow (7) from the hydraulic pump.

7. Remove six screws (15) and cover (14) from the governor control housing.

NOTE: Put location marks on lever (16) and the shaft for assembly purposes.

8. Remove two bolts (18) that hold governor control housing (17) on the governor. Remove lever (16) and
governor control housing (17) as a unit from the shaft.

9. Disconnect hose assembly (23) from tube assembly (22).

10. Loosen hose clamp (25) to disconnect tube assembly (22) from the hose.

11. Remove two bolts (20) that hold bracket (21) to the frame of the machine.

12. Disconnect tube assembly (30) from tee (31).

13. Loosen hose clamp (28) to disconnect hose (27) from tube assembly (29).

14. Remove tube assembly (22), bracket (21), hose (24), tube assembly (26), hose (27), tube assembly (30)
and clips as a unit from the machine.

15. Remove the bolts from each end of hose assembly (19), and remove the hose assembly from the machine.

16. Remove two bolts (33) to disconnect oil level gauge tube assembly (35) from the transfer gear case.

17. Remove two bolts (32) to disconnect oil filler tube assembly (34) from the transfer gear case.

18. Remove oil level gauge tube assembly (35) and oil filler tube assembly (34) as a unit from the machine.

19. Remove the four bolts and tube assembly (38) from the bottom of the steering valve.

20. Remove bolts (36), the spacers and pin assemblies (37) from the rod end of both steering cylinders. Move
both cylinders toward the outside of the machine to provide clearance for the transfer gear case.

21. Disconnect hose assembly (air line) (44) from the adapter in the side of the transmission case.

22. Disconnect the wires from parking brake switch (43). Put identification marks on the wires for correct
installation.

23. Remove the two bolts and clips that hold tube assembly (39) to the transfer gear case. Move hose
assembly (42) and tube assembly (39) to provide clearance for the transfer gear case.

24. Disconnect transmission directional control (40) and speed control (41) from the hydraulic control valve.
See Transmission Control Group.

25. Remove two bolts and angle (48) that hold cable assemblies (45) to the rear frame. Move the cable
assemblies to provide clearance for the transfer gear case.

26. Disconnect and remove tube assembly (46) and tube assembly (47) from the machine.

27. Remove the four bolts to disconnect hose assembly (54) from the implement pump.

28. Remove the two bolts that hold clip (53) and bar (52) to the frame.

29. Remove four bolts (50), and remove elbow (49) from the implement control valve.

30. Remove hose assembly (54), bar (52) and tube assembly (51) as a unit from the machine.

31. Remove the bolt, and disconnect clip (55) from the torque converter relief valve.

32. Disconnect two wires (56) from the sending unit on the torque converter.

33. Remove the bolts from each end of tube assemblies (58) and (59). Remove tube assemblies (58) and (59)
and flanges (57) and (60) from the hydraulic oil cooler.

NOTE: Make sure the bearing caps do not fall off of the spiders when the drive shaft is removed. The needle
bearings in the caps can be lost.

34. Remove bolts (64) and straps (63) that hold the rear drive shaft to yoke assembly (61).

35. Slide yoke assembly (62) into the differential to disconnect the drive shaft from yoke assembly (61).

36. Put tooling (A) and a 12.7 mm (1/2") thick plate (65) in position between the differential housing and the
oil pan plate. Apply pressure to tooling (A) until there is slight tension between the differential housing and
the oil pan plate.

37. Install tooling (B) and a hoist to the torque converter and transfer gear housing as shown.

38. Remove cap (66), bracket (68) and support assembly (67) from each side of the transmission. See Engine
And Transmission Support.

39. Remove the bolts that hold the torque converter to the engine flywheel housing.

40. Install two 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws (69) to loosen the torque converter from the engine flywheel
housing.

41. Remove torque converter, transmission and transfer gears as a unit from the machine. The weight of the
unit is 850 kg (1875 lb.).

1. Fasten tooling (A) and a hoist to the torque converter and transfer gear housing as shown.

2. Make sure O-ring seal (1) is installed around the torque converter housing, and put clean oil on it.

3. Use tooling (A) to keep the unit in a level position, and install the unit in the machine.

4. Make sure the gear teeth of the torque converter housing gear are correctly engaged with the flywheel, and
install the bolts that hold the unit to the flywheel housing.

5. Install support assembly (3), bracket (4) and cap (2) on each side of the transmission. See Engine And
Transmission Support.

6. Release the pressure from tooling (B), and remove 12.7 mm (1/2") thick plate (5) and tooling (B) from
between the differential housing and the oil pan plate.

7. Pull yoke assembly (7) out of the differential until the drive shaft engages with yoke assembly (6).

8. Install straps (8) and bolts (9) that hold the rear drive shaft to yoke assembly (6). Tighten the bolts to a
torque of 60 ± 7 N·m (44 ± 5 lb.ft.).

9. Make sure O-ring seals (10) and (11) are installed on tube assemblies (12) and (15), and put clean oil on
them.

10. Make sure O-ring seal (13) is installed on each flange (14) and (16), and put clean oil on them.

11. Put tube assemblies (12) and (15) and flanges (14) and (16) in position, and install the bolts that hold
them.

12. Connect two wires (18) to the sending unit on the torque converter.

13. Install the bolt that connects clip (17) to the torque converter relief valve.

14. Put hose assembly (23), bar (21) and tube assembly (20) as a unit in position in the machine.

15. Make sure the O-ring seal is installed in the end of hose assembly (23), and put clean oil on it. Put hose
assembly (23) in position on the implement pump, and install the four bolts that hold it in place.

16. Make sure the O-ring seal is installed in the end of elbow (19) and tube assembly (20), and put clean oil
on them.

17. Put elbow (19) and tube assembly (20) in position on the implement control valve, and install the four
bolts that hold them in place.

18. Install two bolts that hold bar (21) and clip (22) to the rear frame.

19. Put angle (26) in position on the rear frame, and install the two bolts that hold it.

20. Install tube assembly (24) and tube assembly (25) on the machine.

21. Put hose assembly (28) and the tube assembly in position on the transfer gear case, and install the two
clips and bolts that hold the tube assembly to the transfer gear case.

22. Connect speed control (27) and transmission directional control (29) to the hydraulic control valve. See
Transmission Control Group.

23. Connect the wires to parking brake switch (30).

24. Connect hose assembly (air line) (31) to the adapter in the side of the transmission case.

25. Put tube assembly (34) in position on the bottom of the steering valve, and install the four bolts that hold
it in place.

26. Put the rod end of the steering cylinders in position in the front frame as shown.

27. Put pin assemblies (33) in position, and install spacers (35) and bolts (32) that hold the pin assemblies in
place.

28. Put oil filler tube (36) and oil level gauge tube (37) in position on the transfer gear case as a unit. Make
sure the O-ring seal is in position between filler tube (36) and the transfer gear case. Install the bolts that hold
the filler tube and oil level gauge tube in place.

NOTE: Make sure the O-ring seals are installed in the ends of the hose assembly, and put clean transmission
oil on them.

29. Put hose assembly (38) in position, and install the bolts in each end that hold it in place.

30. Put tube assembly (49), hose (46), tube assembly (45), hose (43), tube assembly (41) and bracket (40) in
position as a unit on the machine.

31. Connect tube assembly (49) to tee assembly (50).

32. Tighten hose clamp (47) to connect hose (46) to tube assembly (48).

33. Install two bolts (39) that hold bracket (40) to the frame of the machine.

34. Tighten hose clamp (44) to connect tube assembly (41) to the hose.

35. Connect hose assembly (42) to tube assembly (41).

NOTE: Make sure the location marks that were put on lever (52) and the shaft at disassembly are in
alignment.

36. Put governor control housing (51) and lever (52) in position on the shaft as shown. Install two bolts (55)
that hold governor control housing (51) on the governor.

37. Put gasket (53) and cover (54) in position on the governor control housing, and install the six screws that
hold them.

NOTE: Make sure the O-ring seal is in position between elbow (56) and the diverter valve, and put clean
transmission oil on it.

38. Put elbow (56) in position as shown. Tighten hose clamp (60) that connects the elbow to the hose, and
install the four bolts that hold the elbow to the hydraulic pump.

39. Put tube assembly (58), hose (61) and tube assembly (62) in position as a unit on the machine. Install the
four bolts that hold tube assembly (62) to the diverter valve.

NOTE: Make sure the O-ring seals are installed in the ends of the hose assemblies, and put clean
transmission oil on them.

40. Put hose assembly (59) in position as shown, and install the bolts in each end that hold it in place.

41. Put hose assembly (57) in position as shown, and install the bolts in each end that hold it in place.

42. Put tube (63), hose (65) and tube assembly (66) in position on the machine. Tighten hose clamp (67) to
connect tube (63) to the hose.

43. Install bolt (68) and clip (64) that hold tube (63) to the bracket.
