Engine, Torque Converter And Transmission

Remove Engine, Torque Converter And Transmission

start by:

a) remove cab *

b) remove batteries and battery box **

c) remove radiator and guard **

d) remove air cleaner housing **

This operation is in the OPERATOR'S STATION, DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY section.

These operations are in the ENGINE DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY section.

1. Drain the oil from the hydraulic tank. Capacity of the tank is 41 U.S. gal. (155 liter).

2. Drain the oil from the transmission and transfer gear case. Capacity is 8 U.S. gal. (30 liter).

3. Remove the bolts that hold plates (1). Remove plates (1). Remove bolts (2) from the hose retainers
(3).

4. Disconnect wire (5) from the glow plug harness. Disconnect wiring harness (4) from the firewall.

5. Disconnect brake line (7) from brake cylinders. Remove brake fluid reservoirs and box (6).

6. Remove plate (9), then remove firewall (8) from the machine frame.

7. Disconnect cable from support assembly under plate (9). Remove support assembly.

8. Disconnect cable (11) from the disconnect switch. Remove inlet and outlet lines (10) from the
hydraulic oil pump.

9. Lift access door in floor plate. Remove the bolt that holds filler tube and dipstick tube.

10. Remove oil filler tube (16) and dipstick tube (14).

11. Remove line (12) and two transmission control rods (13). Disconnect reverse switch bracket (15)
and move it to one side.

12. Remove governor control rod (18). Disconnect wire (19) from the alternator.

13. Disconnect wires (21) from the starter. Disconnect two lines (20) and (22) from the fuel injection
pump. Disconnect line (17) from the water separator.

14. Remove two air lines (25) and (26) from the air compressor. Remove two heater hoses (24).
Disconnect water temperature sending unit wire (23).

15. Remove oil inlet and outlet lines (27) from the engine. Disconnect wire (28).

16. Remove four bolts (29), then slide drive shaft (30) forward.

17. Loosen parking brake adjustment rod (31). Remove cotter pin (32) and pin (33).

18. Remove cover (34) from the rear universal joint.

19. Remove rear universal joint (35).

20. Fasten tooling (A) and hoist to rear of transmission case and front of engine.

21. Remove caps (36) from the mounting supports.

22. Remove the top two bolts (37) from both supports. Lift the engine and transmission to get
clearance so the transmission supports can be removed.

23. Remove the two supports (38) from the transmission and move the transmission and engine
toward rear of the machine.

24. Remove bolts (39) from the engine front support.

NOTE: Make a final check to be sure that all removals and disconnections have been made from the
engine.

25. Move the engine and transmission toward the rear of the machine until the transmission makes
contact with the differential housing. Lift the unit and move it to the rear and out of the machine.
Weight of the unit is 3400 lb. (1530 kg).

Install Engine, Torque Converter And Transmission

1. Fasten tooling (A) and a hoist to the engine and transmission (1). Put the engine and transmission in
position in the frame. Move the unit forward and over the differential housing.

2. Move the engine and transmission forward and down. Put the supports in position on the
transmission and install the two lower bolts (4) loosely in each support.

3. Lower the engine and transmission on to supports.

4. Install two bolts (2) in top of transmission supports. Tighten all support bolts.

5. Install bolts in the engine front support.

6. Install caps (3) and tighten the bolts in the caps.

7. Install pin (6) and cotter pin in the parking brake adjustment rod (5). Make an adjustment to the
parking brake rod. See EMERGENCY AND PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT in TESTING AND
ADJUSTING Form No. REGO0595-05.

8. Slide the front drive shaft (7) to the rear and connect it to the universal joint flange with the bolts
(8) that hold it. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 100 ± 10 lb.ft. (135 ± 14 N·m).

9. Install the rear universal joint (9) in position and install the bolts that hold it. Tighten the bolts to a
torque of 100 ± 10 lb.ft. (135 ± 14 N·m).

10. Install universal joint guard (10) with the bolts that hold it.

11. Install oil inlet and outlet lines (11) to the engine. Connect wire (12).

12. Install two air lines (15) and (16) on the air compressor. Install two heater hoses (14). Connect
water temperature sending unit wire (13).

13. Connect line (17) to the water separator. Connect two lines (20) and (22) to the fuel injection
pump. Connect wires (21) to the starter. Connect wire (19) to the alternator. Install governor control
rod (18).

14. Connect the reverse switch bracket (27) to the transmission with the bolts that hold it. Remove
line (23) and two transmission control rods (24).

15. Install dipstick tube (25) and oil filler tube (26).

16. Install three lines (28) on the hydraulic pump with the bolts that hold them.

17. Connect cable (29) to the disconnect switch.

18. Install rear support (31), floor plate (32) and firewall (30) on the machine.

19. Install brake lines (34), brake fluid reservoirs and container (33).

20. Connect wires (35) to glow plugs and switch on the brake cylinders. Fasten complete wiring
harness to firewall with clips and nuts (36).

21. Install plates (37) and hose retainers (38) with the bolts that hold them.

end by:

a) install cab *

b) install air cleaner housing **

c) install radiator and guard **

d) install batteries and battery box **
