Human beings have produced 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic

since 1950. Only 9% of plastic waste is recycled and the vast

majority ends up in landfills and in the environment, where it

breaks down into microparticles that pollute water and air ,

harm marine fauna and are ultimately ingested by humans.

There is disparity in the published results regarding the

presence of microplastics in both water supplies and drinking

water and bottled water.

It is born in the Sierra de Padre Caro (Huelva) for 100 km and reaches the

Ría de Huelva where it merges with the Odiel river.

The biodiversity of the Rio Tinto is extraordinary, they have found 800

different fungi, most of them unknown, and 100 algae, as well as

protozoa and bacteria. The Tinto River forms a unique ecosystem on the

planet, however, its contamination by human beings persists. Ecologists

in Action has spent years denouncing the different points of

contamination of the river due to the discharge of water that lacks the

permits and the required treatment.
