Licensing Examination

● Furthermore, success in the board examination impacts the level of services and training

obtained by students. (Smith, 2004)

● In Pakistan, school rivalry and the growth in student enrolment are two reasons why

academic institutions are delivering an atmosphere that meets learners’ expectations.

(Littlefield, 2002)

● In a competitive environment, schools that provide good education and a welcoming

atmosphere for students can thrive. (Candaliza, Gutierrez, 2013)

● It discovered that criminology graduates with high academic preparation requirements

had a comparative advantage when taking the licensure test for criminologists. (Tamayo,

2015)

● This examination covers six areas or subjects including (LEA) law enforcement

administration, criminal jurisprudence, procedure and evidence, criminalistics,

correctional administration, crime detection and investigation, criminal sociology, ethics,

and human relations. (De Vaney Olvey, 20002)

● An examinee must have a grade point average of at least 75% overall and no individual

grade below 50%.

● The primary aim of a licensing examination is to identify individuals who have the

minimum education experience required to carry out duties on the job safely and

successfully.
Criminologist Licensure Examination

● Pres. Rodrigo Duterte approved the RA. 11131 or the Philippine Criminology Profession

Act of 2018.

● The new law aims to govern the examination, registration, and licensure of

criminologists; supervise, control, and regulate the practice of criminology and develop

the professional competence of criminologists.

● The professionalism to obtain a license to operate as a criminologist in the Philippines is

to pass the Board Examination in Criminology, often known as the Licensure

Examination in Criminologists, Republic Act No. 6506, which established the Board of

Criminology of the Professional Regulation Commission, mandates this (RPC).

Performance in the Licensure Examination

● Performance in the licensure examination for board exams is an outcome of quality

education in educational institutions. The programs and policies put in place to generate a

high percentage of licensure examination performance, measure the school's performance

in the licensure exam. (Tarum, 2014).

● However, it is strongly advised that the mock board examination questionnaires be

subjected to a pre and post-item analysis (Manalo, 2013).

● The value of this Mock Board as a learning activity for helping students become

acquainted with question formats and the overall board exam experience. The Mock

Board can be an effective and valid addition to board preparation activities (Dadian,

2016).
Ways in Preparation for a Licensure Examination

● Each one of us has different studying styles and you should try to know which methods

and techniques work the best for you.

● What works for someone else may not work in the same way for you so it is better to first

understand yourself and experiment with possible alternatives until you find your ideal

study habit.

● In the world of review, there are tons of review materials that you can study per subject to

prepare for the board exam, and sure you cannot study all of them in time for the board

exam.

● But you don't need all of them to pass, all you need to do is to read well and understand

the concepts and logic behind each lesson (Nispa, 2016).

● Encourage more group work and conversation during review sessions rather than the

monotonous lectures that so many students currently experience in class.

● In the study (Dickson & Miller, 2005), study guides provide a means for students to not

just memorize the material but to critically think about the main terms and concepts.

● They can provide practice with multiple choice questions and with retrieval cues that can

help with recall on an exam.

● Taking mock exams is another way to review. Studies have shown that offering a practice

exam can be beneficial provided it is administered in the same way as the real test, that is,

students should prepare ahead and take the practice exam without notes.

● Participating in such an activity gives students a better sense of how they will perform on

the test without additional practice or study, enabling them to alter their studies

accordingly or to concentrate more on areas that require it (Balch, 1998).

● A practice exam obviously contains metacognition. Students can see their score on their

practice exam, evaluate their confidence with the material, and assess what they know

and what they need to study further, Answers to these questions can be encouraged in

other forms of review sessions.

Impact of Online Review and Learning

● Online learning for students improves student accessibility. Students must be organized

self-motivated, and have a high level of time management to participate in an online

program.

● Online learning methods can be an effective alternative educational medium for mature

and self-disciplined students but are unsuitable for learning environments that depend on

the learner.

● The main benefit of asynchronous, online learning is that it allows students to fully

participate in high-quality learning situations, whereas distance learning makes it difficult

or impossible to learn on the ground.

● In order for students to focus on the review, teachers must maintain their online classes as

clear, interesting, and interactive as possible.

Advantages of Online Learning

● E-learning allows you to attain your goals in the shortest amount of time with the least

amount of work.
● Joshua (2016) stated that E-learning environments also encourage students or learners to

rely on themselves, so that are no longer the exclusive source of information, but rather

function as guides and advisors.

● For example, e-learning provides for much more flexible learning methods to attend for

courses with much less need for travel.

Disadvantages of Online Learning and Review

● Student’s behavior plays a major role in the success of online review. Students had to

decide on what time and how much time they dedicated to the review as this is not

mandatory or scheduled.

● They described how e-learning is sometimes retained through distance and reflection,

leading to a lack of student involvement, lack of in-person interaction with teachers or

instructions.

● E-learning may prove to be less successful than the modern form of education. Since the

student can have a less chance to prevent illegal behavior and cheating.

Access to reviewers

● Online reviews are deemed to be accessible form a review. It can be used anytime and

everywhere.

● It is also cost effective because you do not need to produce money for photocopy the

materials or borrow books.

● In the Philippines, the SC permitted test takers to maintain their review materials on their

laptop. Examinees may download their reviewer, they can also unlock their laptop after

the security and health check to view their file for any lingering studies.

Limitations of technology

● There are limited technologies which are when the server might crash and disconnect

everyone from the class or in a review session and also when the institution or internet

connection might malfunction and can get clogged.

● Online learning is one way to continue education in times of uncertainty like covid 19

pandemic.

● They also pointed out the challenges they encountered, technical issues, distraction , and

time management ana adapting to unfamiliar technology. It can also lead to depression,

stress and anxiety.

Self- Review

● One benefit of self-studying is that one may pick where to do their self-review. If they

choose, they may use their bedroom and even visit the library as long as there are no

interruptions. You may also pick the time you want to learn. Finally, you may study how

you like. For those comprehensive tests when every person is different, this is more

accurate.
