with courage to chat with my seatmate.

Reflective Essay
Topic: What is the most important piece of advice would you give to yourself?

Life after 18 isn’t easy; it is like a rollercoaster ride. There are lots of ups and downs, loops and
turns. I still remember the days where I felt that I am too hard on myself. I always cry at night questioning
myself worth, “Do I think I am a good human being?”, and “Am I someone deserving of love?” these
questions prompted me to work on myself- to be the better version of myself.

According to Lucille Ball, “Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have
to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” This quotation simply means that we must accept
ourselves fully. When we learn how to love ourselves, we can set boundaries and make healthy choices
for our own good.

I realized that at the end of the day, I only have myself. My friends and loved ones will be here
for me when I need them but they won’t be able to understand everything that goes in my life, they won’t
be able to understand the thoughts that haunt me at night.

With these realizations, the piece of advice that I can give to myself is, “Take time to know
yourself.” Because I cannot and will not be able to love myself, know my worth, and discover myself
until I take time to be still. According to Socrates, “Getting to know yourself is truly the most important
thing you can do in your lifetime.”
