A STICTH IN TIME

SAVES NINE
“You either spend all your life dreaming or you spend all your time achieving your
dreams.”

‘Life is like a melting ice cream and enjoy it before it melts.’ This was said by someone
definitely great but I believe that enjoyment is not just sleeping or chatting but in reality
it is the sense of satisfaction we experience when we fulfil our long standing dreams and
ambitions.

I am sure that you all have heard the story of a lion appearing in front of a boy out of
nowhere and when the boy got terrified, he just closed his eyes thinking that by doing so,
the threat posed to him by the lion will pass. But its sheer foolhardiness to wait for the
impossible to happen and whenever the boy would decide to grace the Earth with his sight,
the odds are such that he would find the lion just where it had been, if not nearer.

What I am getting at by this folklore is that we should not waste our crucial moments just
like the foolish boy did when he could still have formulated or even executed an escape plan
had he valued time.

“The moon will wax, the moon will wane,

The mist and cloud will turn to rain,

Rain to mist and cloud again,

Tomorrow will be today.”

Change is the only constant thing in this world and the pages of the calendar will keep on
flapping without even the slightest concern for whether you made optimum utilisation of
the time or not. Time will surely fly away but whatever you do, you will never get this time
back once it has passed.

This is phrase which just dos not apply to our garments but also all other spheres of life. We
must make quick and timely decisions while never compromising on it’s accuracy. Many a
times, in corporate companies, the executives keep on crying forever saying that if only they
had taken a decision then, the firm and not to mention the executive would be multi-
millionaires now. So, in a nutshell, we should not waste too much time thinking as then
though you might have found the best way but perhaps you would not be given another
chance to do it your way.

The phrase ‘A stich in time saves nine’ has been derived from the simple case of our
garments. When a piece of cloth gets torn, it is better to snitch it at the first opportune
moment as the more you delay it, the less usable the cloth becomes.

I am an ardent believer of the saying, “an ounce of precaution is a pound of cure.” In

today’s world, it augurs well for you as well as others if you prevent calamity or get rid of it
in the early stages itself before it makes some considerable damage. The epitome for this is
any disease ranging right from a flu to thyroid and from fever to the more serious ones. The
earlier we diagnose the disease, the better it is since we can then at least begin our
treatment program before the situation gets out of our hands.

A stitch in time saves nine is not just for the sake of saying but it helps to save a lot of our
time, labour and not to mention money in the true sense. For eg: There is a misconception
between you and your best friend which threatens to create a rift between you and him
which may prove to be too huge a void to fill for you. So, its better that you clear the air as
soon as possible because if you don’t you might just lose someone with whom you can
laugh and on whose shoulders you can shed your tears.

Most of the students now-a-days put off their studies for the last moment, wasting away
their precious time on unnecessary activities. But, while we can enjoy at any stage of our
lives, these are the years to make a career and they will never return. Yet, there are those
few students wise enough to understand the significance of this time and hence they put in
all their efforts to try and pass the examination in one go only and that too with flying
grades. This saves several years of our lives as well as keeps us motivated enough to clear
the next level in the same manner or should I rather say, in an outstanding manner.

My principal sir often says that we must turn our vacations into vocations because that is
the golden period when we can do several activities which aren’t possible during school
days. In a nutshell, we must utilise any and every spare moment constructively if we are to
be one of the serious contenders in today’s ultra competitive world.

So, I would like to sign off by saying that each and every moment is precious and we need
to constructively utilise each one of it. So, it’s high time to think and we will have to pull up
our socks sooner, rather than later if we are to make a mark in this world.
