HEALTH APPRAISAL AND SCREENING PROCEDURES


BREAST SELF-EXAMINATION (for Girls)
• is recommended to check your breasts for possible masses or lumps the moment you start
menstruating.
• should be done monthly, specifically one week after menstruation.

How to examine your breast:

1.Lie down with a pillow at your back and place


your right arm behind your head. Use the finger
pads of the middle fingers on your left hand to feel
for lumps in the right breast. Use overlapping dime-
sized circular motions of the finger pads to feel the
breast tissue.

2. Move around the breast in an up and down pattern starting


at an imaginary line drawn straight down your side from the
underarm and moving across the breast to the middle of the
chest bone (sternum or breastbone).

3. Repeat examination on your left breast, putting your left
arm behind your head and using the finger pads of your
hand to do the same.

4. While standing in front of a mirror with your hands


pressing firmly down on your hips, look at your breasts
for any changes in size, shape, contour, or dimpling, or
redness of the nipple or breast skin.

VISION TEST - Keeps you informed of your visual


ability

1. If standing, the heels should touch the 20-foot


line; If seated, the back legs of the chair should
touch the line.
2. Read the letters in the chart.
3. If wearing an eyeglass, test with the eyeglass on

and record the result.
4. Both eyes should be opened during the test. The
other eye should be covered with a cardboard resting obliquely across the nose. Avoid
pressures on the eyeball
5. Begin with the 30-foot line. If unsuccessful, follow-up with the 20-foot line.
6. Move promptly and rhythmically from one symbol to another at a speed with which you
can keep pace.
7. Consider seeing a line satisfactory if three out of four symbols are read.
8. Record the result-20 the distance from the chart, and the numerator the lowest line read.
