What is Nanotechnology ?
 Nanotechnology is one of the new emerging
technologies.
 Nanotechnology is a technology, which deals about
the design, characterization, production and
application of structures, devices and systems by
controlling shape and size at the nano scale.
 Nano meter = 10-9 m.

NANO MEDICINE
Nanotechnology + Medicine = Nano medicine.

Nano medicine defined as the monitoring,

repair, construction and control of human
biological systems at the molecular level, using
engineered nano devices and nanostructures.

The nano robots are new possibility for medical

instrumentation to solve many problems in

Guided Drug Delivery
The nano particles can deliver drugs in body such as,
• Target specific action - gold particles in nano shell.
• Trigger based drug dose – insulin dose.
Other options for targeting:
Solid tumor 1 - Direct injection into
tumor site
2 - Coating NMP with
antibodies to target tumor
Apply magnetic
field to concentrate
particles
Inject the NMPs, it will
circulate through the
blood stream
Modulate field to
release drug from

CARBON NANOTUBES
• Carbon nanotubes are carbon atoms about the
one billionth of meter in diameter.
• Their large length and small diameter result in a
large aspect ratio.

FABRICATION OF CNT`s

CNT production required three things; Carbon

feeds, Metal catalyst and Heat.
There are two methods used to fabricate carbon
nano tubes such as..

Top down approaches:

Ball milling, sol-gel method.
Bottom up approaches:
CVD, Laser ablation, Arc discharge.
BALL MILLING
The nano materials were made by simple method
ball milling, which is better then mechanical crushing.

NANO PARTICLES
A nanoparticle is a small particle
with at least one dimension less then
100 nm.
OBJECTIVES
The aim of our project is to
synthesis gold nano particles by using
liquid chemical method.
SYNTHESIS OF GOLD NANOPARTICLES
The hydrogen tetrachloroaurate (HAuCl4) is converted into its
liquid form by reduction method. This liquid when dissolved is stirred
rapidly by simuntanesouly adding a reducing agent. This reduces Au3+
ions in the liquid to neutral gold atoms.
The formation of gold nanoparticles can be observed by a
change in color since small nanoparticles of gold are red. A layer of
absorbed citrate anions on the surface of the nanoparticles keep the
nanoparticles separated.
Then a laser is passed through the gold atoms to check for its
convergence property and NaCl is added to it receive the different.
PRECAUTIONS
METHODOLOGY

Add 20 ml of HAuCl4 to conical flask on a stirring hot plate. Add a

magnetic stir bar and bring the solution to a boil.

A solution is heated until it comes to a boil. To the boil solution,

add 2ml of a 1% solution of trisodium citratedihydrate (Na3C6H5O7.2H2O).

The formation of gold nanoparticles proceeds first as a faint blue

color (30 s), followed by a dark violet appearance (60 s), and finally a
brilliant orange red (120 s).
After receiving the orange red colour, laser beam is passed
through the gold nano particles. As gold nano materials converges
the laser rays passes through it, it proves itself as gold nanoparticles.

To add 5-10 drops of 1M NaCl solution. We obtained

different colors. The change of color of the solution as the
nanoparticles get closer together. The diameter of gold nanoparticles
determines the wavelengths of light absorbed. The colors in this
diagram illustrate this effect. AFM image of gold nano particles (a)

Gold nano particles can be produced by various
Methods like Sol-gel method, Chemical Vapour Deposition
method, Ball milling…etc. But liquid chemical method is
been choosed, because
Easier
Quicker and
Cost effective
Gold nano particles have wide context of
applications almost in every field in future days to come.
