Consider the scenarios given below and apply the Software engineering code of ethics to
them

1. Mr. B is a division manager at Company G that had been failing to gain access to the
market in a large South American country. If successful, the company can gain a high
profit. Six months ago, a government official from the country contact Mr. B and assured
him that he could enter market access for a hefty cash payment. Company G has been
granted access to the market after Mr. B provides the money to the government official. [3]
In the context of the enterprise integration system project, Mr. B is an employee that eager
in searching for a higher project job title. He pays a hefty sum of money to a project team
so that he becomes a project manager without doing the job.

Ans: According to the software engineering code of ethics Mr. B has violated the following code
of ethics:

 Six months ago, a government official from the country contact Mr. B and assured

(3.03) Reject bribery Mr. B has granted access to the market after providing the money to
the government official and violated this principle of judgment and code of ethics.
 Mr. B is an employee that eager in searching for a higher project job title. He pays a
hefty sum of money to a project team so that he becomes a project manager without
doing the job.
(1.03) Ensure you are suitably qualified,
Mr. B didn’t care that he’s suitable and qualified for the higher job title, he just wanted to
occupy the title without any effort and he paid for this job title which violated this code of
ethics.

2. Employers use GPS with their system as a surveillance device on employees. They track
their employees to ensure their employees work honestly as well as increase profit as the
worker work more efficiently.[4] The system could also track employees’ information
outside the working hours. In an enterprise integration, GPS integration can bring benefits
to the employer but it can invade the employee’s or client’s privacy. This also applies to the
RFID integration project with the data warehouse system.

Ans: The software engineering code of ethics that is being adhered to in this scenario is:

 Employers use GPS with their system as a surveillance device on employees. They
track their employees to ensure their employees work honestly as well as increase
profit as the worker work more efficiently.
(4.01) Temper all technical judgments by the need to support and maintain human values.
The company ensure that their employees if are working honestly and with full zeal, they
increase profit as the worker work more efficiently

The software engineering code of ethics that is being violated in this scenario are;

 The system could also track employees’ information outside the working hours. In
an enterprise integration, GPS integration can bring benefits to the employer but it
can invade the employee’s or client’s privacy.
(4.03) Use the property of a client or employer only in ways properly authorized, and with
the client's or employer's knowledge and consent.
The company can track employees’ information outside the working hours and which can
invade the employees’ or clients’ privacy, as the employees are being somehow tracked,
they may not know about it which is violating this code of ethics.

(4.01) Provide service only in areas of their competence.


The company cannot integrate via GPS outside the working hours of a client’ or
employees’ which the company also end up violating this code of ethics.
