C. Let’s Clarify Things.

Use of Facilities and Equipment in Practice and Performances- since cheer dance is a large group dance; a
spacious facility is required for conducting practices and holding performances. In the Philippines, cheering
squads in schools usually use the basketball gym or open field of the school to practice their routines. Some
schools even have special facilities like fitness and training centers exclusive for cheer dance practices.
Basketball gyms—stadiums or coliseums for the more prestigious competitions, for instance, and barangay
courts or open-air courts for smaller competitions-are also he venue of choice of most cheer dance and
cheerleading competitions as there is an abundance of such facilities all around the Philippines. The venue for
cheer dance and cheerleading practices and performances should be equipped with a sound system and
megaphones for music and sound support. There should also be gymnastics and tumbling mats which are
necessary for safety of cheerleaders during stunts and tumbling. Finally, first-aid kits and basic medical
equipment must be on-hand for immediate medical aid should minor or serious injuries occur. Some facilities
may even include locker and shower rooms as well as modern gym equipment like treadmills, gymnastics vault,
and bars and beams for intensive physical training.
Gear and Apparel- it is important that members of the cheering squad wear proper attire during practices and
the actual performance. Male and female members usually wear fitted compression shirts, shorts, and tights for
these events. Compression garments improve blood circulation during strenuous physical activities and also
support the muscles to prevent soreness. These garments are then matched with a good pair of durable, flexible,
and light rubber shoes which provide support during tumbling and stunting. Many schools provide their
cheering squads with necessary gear and apparel.

Safety in Practice and Performances in Hip-hop Dancing

1. Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely, easily, and comfortably. Just make sure that
what yo0u wear is acceptable to the school dress code.
2. Wear shoes that have slightly less grip on the floor. When practicing your hi-hop dance moves, you
want to be able to spin and slip easily, and if your soles grip the ground on a quick move, you could fall
down or even break your ankle.
3. Be careful. Like any other athletic activity, there is always a likelihood for injury. To decreases the
chances of injury, remember to stretch first, warm up, and consider your personal safety protocol.
Moreover, do not practice when you are tired or sick or when the practice or performance area is less
than ideal or not suitable for dancing. Make sure also that you are physically, mentally, and emotionally
prepared before your practice or performance.
4. Start with easier moves and routines to warm up, and then follow with more difficult moves that are
outside your skill zone. Remember, though, to seek guidance and assistance from a qualified coach or
instructor.
5. If you are body shy, or you feel like you do not have a good sense of rhythm, just be patient, keep
practicing, and maintain a good attitude. You can excel and become a great dancer over time through
hard work and perseverance.
6. Once you have gained confidence and feel comfortable in dancing, you may begin to look for other
dancers and from your dance crew. You can support one another, learn cool moves from each other, and
assist one another when inventing and learning awkward moves.

dancing can add more to those already associated with the exercise you can get from their simpler styles of

following:
