REFLECTIVE ESSAY ON THE CONCEPT OF TEACHING

Teaching is one profession that accountancy graduates can choose from. But as an
accountancy student that do not have the intention to teach in the future, it is hard for me to
see the true essence of teaching. I always ask myself, are the teachers not tired to go to school?
Like, they’ve studied for years to graduate and have a college degree just to be at school for all
of their lives? I don’t get the logic. Are they out of their mind? Because even when I was still in
high school I was so eager to take college and graduate to be able to get away from school and
any academic assignments.
Until realization, awareness, and comprehension takes place. I realize the efforts that
my teachers and/or professors are doing. The sleepless nights, the long patience especially for
naughty students, the considerations they are giving, their life that they are sacrificing in order
for their students which they’ve considered as their own children to make sure that they are
able to follow the discussion and lessons. Others say, especially before pandemic that students
spend more time with their teachers than their parents which is true because we consider them
as our second parent that shapes us in who we are and who we will be. From this, I can see the
essence of being a teacher. They don’t teach because of money, they don’t become a teacher
because it is easy, and they are not out of their minds. I can finally see the logic, it is their
dream, teaching is their dream, becoming a teacher is their dream just like any other
profession. Maybe they got an inspiration from their previews teachers, maybe they got the
motivation from out of school youths and they want to teach them. Being a teacher is not an
easy job but seeing your students achieved their dreams and become what they want to
become is another level of satisfaction that the teachers feel. “Teaching is the profession that
teaches all of the professions”. From that quotation, I can proudly say that teachers are the
birth of anyone in any profession.
I want to give thanks to my teachers from the past and my teachers at the moment for
shaping me for who I am today and for who I will be in the future. Any achievements that I
achieve, anything that I become, my teachers have a great impact on that. My close teachers,
my not so close teachers, the teacher that failed me, I want to thank them all, any experience
that we had, I still learned a lesson from them and because they’ve been a great role of me
today.
