II. Project Background and Rationale

The role of DepEd is to campaign for the entire community, where the school is situated, to put up an
integrated garden in school and a nursery -a functional backyard garden for the entire community, to be
managed through a concerted effort of the school officials and families, to ensure sustainable growth, so
that hunger is minimized. In 2018, the Department of Education (DepEd) issued DepEd Memorandum
No. 95 which calls for the maintenance of GPP in elementary and secondary schools where vegetable
production and consumption among school children is encouraged for better health and nutrition.  

The La Castellana National High School “Gulayan sa Paaralan:” headed by the Technology and Livelihood
Education (TLE) Department is responsible to spread head and monitor the school-based vegetable
garden. The school vegetable garden is a process of planting vegetables, herbs, fruits and spices in any
space available in the school backyard, in a form of garden patches, pots, vertical walls and trellises with
the used of recyclables such as empty bottles, cans, basins, pails, trays, socks, tires and other disposable
container with the used of organic materials that protect the environment.

III. Description of the Problem

Analysing the renovation of Gulayan sa Paaralan challenge us to build a strong teamwork and to invest
our time: on how to repair the fences. The fences are totality damage and it won’t last long because
it made of slabs. Second, the water source is not adequate to supply water in the garden. Lastly, the
garden plot is made of plastic bottles that it can’t support the soil during rainy season.

IV. Project Description

The renovation of Gulayan sa Paaralan is essential to provide the permanent fence made of hallow
blocks and cyclone wires needed to protect the plot from a wide range of threats, repair the garden
plot using hallow blocks in order to support the soil from washing out during rainy season and
supply the adequate amount of water source for the vegetables/plants.

V. Project Objectives and Expected Outcomes


This projects aims to:

1. Fully functional Gulayan sa Paaralan

2. Can be generating source of income of the department

3. To improve and increase vegetable production and consumption

VI. Project Implementation

This project will be implemented under the TLE Department and through the support of School officials
and other kind stakeholders/agencies.
