Name of
Renovation of Gulayan sa Paaralan
Activity
In 2018 the Department of Education(DepEd) issued a memorandum no. 95 which calls for the
maintenance of GPP in elementary and secondary schools where vegetable production and
consumption among students are encouraged for better health and nutrition. The memorandum
is set to campaign and establish an integrated garden within the school premise to rally the
students, the families, school officials and the community in where the school is located the
importance and benefits of eating vegetables. In addition to this, its goal is to promote
knowledge to all the students on how to cultivate, grow and maintain vegetables; may it be in
school or in their individual homes. Promoting the nutritional value of consuming vegetables is
an added benefit.
Background
The La Castellana National High School - Technological and Livelihood Education Department
will spearhead the "Gulayan sa Paaralan" Project. The TLE department will monitor and manage
the school-based vegetable garden. The "Gulayan sa Paaralan" is a mini garden that will be
focused on cultivating, planting herbs, vegetables, fruits and spices in any space available within
the school backyard. The "Gulayan sa Paaralan" will be in any form of garden patches, pots,
vertical walls and trellises using only recycled materials such us; empty bottles, cans, basins,
trays, empty sacks, used tires and other recyclable materials to conserve and protect our
environment.
