Key points Operations Preparedness
Safety Valves
• Min of one full opening safety valve with operating handle and appropriate crossovers to all
dimensions tubular run in the well.
• For Casing running, crossover onto circulating head for the casing size run must be prepared

Sufficient Bulk Materials

• Increase 1 ppg mud weight
• Sufficient cement to allow a 400-foot plug to be set.
• Client Contract or higher figure takes precedence

Proper Maintenance
• Proper pressure testing/ verification and maintenance of WC equipments (eg BOP, Manifolds, etc)
• Maintenance regime per API standards

Familiar with Procedures

• How to handle WC situations
• How to identify influx and kicks
• Clear understanding of Procedures will allow you to plan ahead

15
Blow Out Preventer Equipment (BOPE)
• Full traceability on all WCE components.
Valid COC and data books on all WCE
components.
An Excel form tracking all WCE components
to be valid onboard.

• Recommend to install Surge Bottle on

Annular.
SKD wants all rigs to install this surge
bottle or at least has the complete Assy
inclusive of fittings and pipings ready
onboard for installation. (6.5.4.14)

• Rig to ensure that there is a calculated

and/or actual Shear data onboard and to
update Tech Dept of what rigs have
onboard.

16
Refer to Appendix K for more details
BOP control specifications (API 16D)

• All BOP control hose are to come with proper

certification for flame retardant as of AP16D.

Note:
The Fire Test Certificate should indicate
tested to API requirements.

17
Refer to Appendix K for more details
BOP control specifications (API 16D)
• Manifolds for the Accumulator bottles are to
be spilt so it will not result in more than 25%
loss of the total accumulator system capacity.
• The precharge pressure calculations shall
take into account the well-specific conditions
(e.g. drill pipe shear pressure, temperature,
etc.).

• Capacity sufficient to achieve 15 mins from

Precharge Pressure to RWP

18
Refer to Appendix K for more details
BOP control specifications (API 16D)
Vents from the Reservoir
• To prevent over pressurization, vents shall
be inspected and maintained to ensure they
are not plugged or capped.

19
Refer to Appendix K for more details
Choke & Kill Manifold Assembly (API)
Things to Note:
• No Chiksan Swivels allowed on SKD rigs

• Choke line to be at least 3" ID with API

Monogram. (exclude choke valves)

• No NPT fittings to be on the High Pressure C&K

Manifold, Cement Manifold, Standpipe Manifold
and BOP stack Main Blocks

• All valves on C&K manifold and valves on BOP

side outlets to have H2S, PSL 3 and PR-2 in API
6A.

Refer to Appendix K for more details
Choke & Kill Manifold Assembly (API)

Typical only

• Minimum 2 adjustable
chokes

• Tie in both drilling fluid

and cement

• Choke and Kill line able

to pump through either
end

• Kill lines shall be as

straight as possible.

Cement Manifold
Manifold Manifold

• Hard Piping or HP Hoses may be used.

• Pipe or Hoses shall be properly supported to minimize vibrations and
failure.
• Care should be taken for hose arrangement (if used) because the hoses
will sway uncontrollably when it burst.
• Hoses shall follow required minimum bending radius per manufacturers
recommendation for specific application (API 53 section 6.2.3.1.5)
HP
Hoses to comply to SKD Hose management procedure (reference PRO-00- HP Mud

For reference only:

Typical Choke & Kill Set Up:-
Tie-in at position 1 recommended for this instance.
The philosophy is to be as close as possible to Kill Line as possible for most functional use.
Pressure Testing on WC equipments (API)
• Pressure tests on the well control
equipment shall be conducted

a) before the equipment is put into

operational service on the
wellhead
b) after the disconnection or repair
of any pressure containment seal
in the BOP stack, choke line, kill
line, choke manifold, or wellhead
assembly but limited to the
affected component
c) in accordance with the
equipment owner’s PM program
d) not to exceed intervals of 21
days. (API 53)

Some client may request 14 days for BOP

25
Refer to Appendix K for more details
Other pointers to note (API)

• Rigs to confirm if they have design

throughput of the MGS available and
posted on the rig floor to prevent failure of
the liquid seal.

• Flanges and Hubs on BOP systems

SKD recommends Temp Class P+U, Material

class EE, PR2 level, PSL-3, inconel inlay.
SKD recommends Raise face RTJ with BX
ring gasket, refer to Figure 6.
