DESIGN RECIPE
AESTHETIC

Timeless & Tailored

The Park Hyatt brand’s signature

aesthetic is one of “sprezzatura”—
carefully curated design that appears
effortless and nonchalant.

The effortlessness is born out of the

painstaking blending of two elemental
design influences: the past and the
present.

The Park Hyatt brand is grounded in the

past in its traditional techniques, classical
proportions and styles, local decorative
influences and focus on craftsmanship.
Yet it is equally rooted in the refined contemporary principles of edited simplicity, freshness and cultured refinement.

Together, these distinct, yet beautifully complementary influences create a tailored timelessness that is unique to the Park
Hyatt brand.

PALETTE

Expressive Nature

As in parks themselves, at Park Hyatt

hotels the elements of nature provide
the foundation of the visitor experience.
We echo and honor our “park” heritage
through the use of materials, textures
and hues inspired by the beauty and
variety of natural forms.

Our palette is based in muted and

subdued tones and textures, contrasted
with accents of a more vivid and
expressive character, serving to magnify
and highlight their distinctive qualities.

We visually celebrate the unique patterns

and compositions found in nature
through the use of vibrantly patterned, Confidential And Proprietary Materials Of Hyatt | (C) 2021 Hyatt Corporation. All Rights Reserved.

slab-cut and backlit transparent stones,
live-edge and crosscut woods and patinaed metals. This interplay of natural expressions creates a collage of color and
pattern, creating spaces of visual and tactile sophistication.

CHARACTER & ATMOSPHERE

An Oasis of Calm & Wonder

Every Park Hyatt hotel is an expression of

Jay Pritzker’s original vision of an oasis of
calm, a retreat from the pressures and
hectic pace of daily life. Yet Park Hyatt
hotels are far more than a place to
restore and re-energize, their stimulating
environments ignite the imagination and
stir the senses, surprising and delighting,
creating a sense of wonder.

Every property speaks in an architectural

vernacular that is distinctive

and unique, inspired by its surroundings

—artful, sophisticated, cultured and
uniquely interesting.

CHARACTER & ATMOSPHERE

A Palpable Sense of Place

Each Park Hyatt hotel is a unique

reflection of its locale, community and
culture. Three practices ensure that the
brand’s character and atmosphere are
clearly defined and supported by its
location:

The architectural vernacular must

complement the surrounding area.
The hotel site must be in close
proximity to a culturally significant
area with a rich variety of offerings in
the fine and performing arts.
To serve as inspiration as well as connect to the brand’s “park” heritage, it is recommended that hotel properties be

located in a destination with a notable local park and/or nature preserve.

These practices ensure that each hotel becomes a part of its environment,  exuding the palpable sense of place that is a
signature of the Park Hyatt brand.

DESIGN PRINCIPLES

Pied À Terre / Home Away From

Home

A prominent residential influence is

apparent throughout interior spaces,
expressed as a “home away from home”
for the Global Connoisseur, with
sophisticated, impeccable details
throughout.

DESIGN PRINCIPLES

Pied À Terre / Home Away From

Home

It is important to research the region /

community’s private luxury residences
for inspiration. Everything from the space
planning, programming finishes and
materials to seating hierarchy and types
and details work together to create an
enriching social gathering place in the
spirit of Jay Pritzker’s vision for Park
Hyatt hotels—to be a true home away

DESIGN PRINCIPLES

Nature Meets Culture

The namesake “park” honors the

remarkable pairing of the first Park Hyatt
hotel and Chicago’s iconic Water Tower
Park, and embodies the soul and spirit of
the great urban parks of the world—a
seamless blend of nature with culture; an
oasis of calm and civilization in the midst
of a bustling metropolis—an idea
synonymous with the soul and spirit of
the Park Hyatt brand.

DESIGN PRINCIPLES

Nature Meets Culture

Every Park Hyatt hotel celebrates the

“park” heritage through the use of its
location’s natural materials and areas
such as the local parks. These textures,
botanicals and artifacts, transform into
culturally relevant interior elements,
details and installations.

DESIGN PRINCIPLES

Artful Curation

A story is told through each hotel’s

selected works of art, art installations,
styling elements, sequencing, highlighted
architectural elements, books,
botanicals, lighting and even framed
views—all rooted in the hotel’s narrative
and/or context of the location and
property.

DESIGN PRINCIPLES

Artful Curation

Thoughtfully curated artwork and styling

elements enrich our guests’ knowledge
and cultivate their understanding of the
locale and culture. Every element should
add to the story, opening our guests’
eyes and minds, leading them to the next
step on their journey with us.

CONTEXTUAL INSIGHTS
HISTORY

Adding Depth Through

Connections With the Past

Cues that place the contemporary hotel

in its historical context contribute
richness to the hotel experience. Each
Park Hyatt hotel incorporates references
to the fine art, music, architecture and
culinary history of its location, providing
our guests with a tangible sense of place
and an emotional and intellectual
connection to all that has come before.

PHYSICAL CHARACTER

The Environment Tells Our Story

The physical traits of the local

environment provide a storytelling
platform shared with each Park Hyatt
guest as they move through the carefully
considered spaces of the hotel.

The urban neighborhood, the hotel’s

coastal or mountainside location, nearby
landmarks and the existing building itself
are all sources of inspiration.

Every element of the design is another

chapter in the hotel’s story and another
way of stimulating the sophisticated
mind of the Global Connoisseur.

Appreciating Local Culture &
Social life

To make each guest’s experience

culturally and locally authentic, each Park
Hyatt hotel infuses cultural traditions
from the local community into each
experience.

Thoroughly understanding the local

culture, social nuances and argot is key
to providing a pitch-perfect expression of
the area that surrounds each Park Hyatt
hotel and the people who make that
location their home. We are an oasis but
not an island. The cultural and social life
of each Park Hyatt location is imbued in every aspect of its character.

DESIGN APPROACH
CHALLENGING CONVENTIONAL DESIGN
The Park Hyatt hotel arrival incorporates
thoughtful and purposeful interior and
exterior designs—from space planning,
furnishings and lighting to styling
elements paired with local works of art
and installations. The result is a personal,
unique and enriching guest experience.

The Park Hyatt brand stresses the use of

custom-designed elements, local works
of art and millwork driven by each hotel’s
unique Design Narrative. These elements
work harmoniously to transform ordinary
guest arrivals, which traditionally rely on
aesthetic / visual concepts, into vibrant
and immersive guest experiences.

Private Residence

Prominent residential influence should

be apparent throughout the arrival
experience. Embracing the familiarity
and comfort that only comes from home,
and transforming the hotel into the
Global Connoisseurs’ aspirational
residence.

It is important to research private luxury

residences in the region or community
for inspiration. Everything from the space
planning, programming, finishes and
materials, as well as types of seating and
hierarchy that work in concert to create
an enriching social gathering place. It should be, in every sense, a true home away from home.

REQUIREMENTS

Residential influence should be

apparent throughout arrival including
interior design, lighting, FF&E, styling
elements, art, etc.
Use creative lighting schemes with
highs and lows to add depth and
texture to space—highlighting check-

elements and art
There should be ample access to
daylight through exterior glazing and /
or skylights required
Integration of MEP / hotel systems should be be as unobtrusive as possible

PRIVATE RESIDENCE

Intimate & Approachable

The influence of local private residences

is translated into comfortably
approachable and intimately scaled
spaces with residential-inspired furniture
and fixtures.

CONSIDERATIONS &
REQUIREMENTS

High ceilings and large cavernous

spaces should be avoided or amended
throughout interior architecture and /
or design elements to create an
intimate feel
Oversized furniture and fixtures should be avoided. All elements should be selected and designed with human scale in
mind
Introduce small to midsize art / styling elements and botanicals to create an approachable and tactile environment for
guests
High impact architectural lighting to be combined with warm residential indirect / diffused FF&E lighting

PRIVATE RESIDENCE

Details & finishes

While furniture and fixtures go a long

way to tell a design story, it is equally
important to implement and create
residential-inspired details and
techniques paired with warm finishes
and materials throughout the arrival
experience.

CONSIDERATIONS &
REQUIREMENTS

Residential quality details (including all hardware, door and window details, reveals, stitching, welting, drapery, joinery,
etc.) for all furniture and fixtures is essential in maintaining a residential environment
Material and finishes must be residential in appearance and quality while meeting hospitality standards for durability

Styling & Accents

Residential-inspired design accents,

styling, accessories and tactile elements
help to create a warm and inviting
atmosphere. These touches also allow
our guests to discover and cultivate their
knowledge of local culture, art, music,
food and wine, architecture, design,
history and geography.

CONSIDERATIONS &
REQUIREMENTS

Thoughtfully curated residential styling elements, accent pieces and OE must be incorporated into the lounge design. It
also important that these items are made of durable materials

PRIVATE RESIDENCE

Planning & Programming

The Park Hyatt hotel arrival experience

draws inspiration directly from regional
private residential space planning, room
types / names and general programming.

The planning and programming for the

arrival experience at Park Hyatt hotels
should mirror that of a local private
residence. It should employ a unique mix
of locally inspired programming and
intimate living spaces that capture
guests’ interests and help make the
arrival area a social center of activity. It is
critical that these spaces anchor all areas
of the arrival as well as funnel guests
through the centrally located Park Hyatt
Living Room.

The central location of the Park Hyatt

Living Room allows guest traffic to flow
through and into it, promoting its
offerings as well as helping keep it active
throughout the day. The reciprocal is also
true, as the areas around the Living Room feed off of the traffic and atmosphere of the space.

With that said, the check-in as well as the concierge should be located within the Park Hyatt Living Room but need not be
centrally located. It is important to eliminate the “transactional” nature of a conventional check-in and concierge, replacing

DESIGN APPROACH

Curated Art

The arrival experience at Park Hyatt

hotels incorporates thoughtful, carefully
chosen works of art and styling elements
that immerse our guests in the local
culture. This curated storytelling elevates
the guests’ experience and takes them
on a contextual journey unique to each
property and location.

Curated art includes but is not limited to

small and large works of art, styling
elements, sequencing of spaces,
highlighted architectural elements,
books, botanicals, lighting and even
framed views.

CONSIDERATIONS &
REQUIREMENTS

Curated artwork must be

incorporated throughout the arrival
experience
Consider unique/unconventional
display and mounting methods
Consider a mix of art mediums including photography, sculpture, installations, light art,

paintings and/or artwork directly applied to interior and architectural elements

Drinking & Dining

The comforts and luxuries of home continue beyond the Living Room. Drinking and Dining at Park Hyatt hotels take
inspiration from local trends in mixology and cuisine to create singular culinary experiences.

DINING

An Immersive Culinary Experience

Park Hyatt restaurants reflect not only our Global Connoisseurs’ passion for the finest in food, wine and service, but also
their ongoing search for new dining experiences and even greater culinary knowledge. Equally passionate about their craft,
our chefs and sommeliers interact personally with our guests. While exchanging knowledge and sharing their creative
processes, they provide an uncommonly enriching and stimulating dining experience where guests play a vital role. It
focuses not only on a superb end result, but also on the artistry and craftsmanship that go into creating a refined and
memorable meal.

The dining room interiors feature locally inspired furniture and fittings, art installations and styling elements, all of which
contribute to the unmistakable sophistication of the Park Hyatt restaurant experience.

DRINKING

Cocktails & Conversation,

Intimately Served

Park Hyatt bars and lounges are refined and inclusive social spaces where guests can enjoy lively conversation or relax on
their own. Like our chefs and sommeliers, Park Hyatt hotel bartenders are passionate about their art. They engage on a
personal level with guests, sharing their in-depth knowledge, offering local insights and making the Park Hyatt Bar
experience a delightfully uncommon and enriching one.

The bar acts as a social anchor for the connecting and surrounding spaces, encouraging our guests to discover and interact

DESIGN APPROACH
OUR APPROACH TO DESIGNING THE GUESTROOM EXPERIENCE
All guestroom designs are to be guided
by Park Hyatt’s Design Recipe, which
includes Aesthetic, Palette, Character & Atmosphere and four Design Principles, as well as each hotel’s Design Narrative.

Please use this document as a design guideline to verify all proposed designs for all new-builds, renovations and

III  ROOM TYPES

DESIGN NARRATIVE

Uncommon Style Meets

Unexpected Taste

Our rooms challenge conventional guestrooms with sophisticated interior designs, space planning, furnishings, artwork,
styling and amenities — all reflecting each hotel’s specific Design Narrative.

Park Hyatt encourages a majority of custom-designed elements / millwork with the intent of creating a physical environme
that is immersive and driven by the unique Design Narrative, rather than relying on aesthetic or visual concepts.

PRIVATE RESIDENCE

World-Class Elegance

Prominent residential influence should be apparent throughout the guest room. Using local residential familiarity and
transforming it into a Global Connoisseur’s contemporary aspirational residence.

It is important to research the region / community for inspiration from private luxury residences. Everything from the space
planning, programming, finishes, materials, details etc; working together to create an enriching social gathering place in th
spirit of Jay Pritzker’s vision for Park Hyatt—to be a true home away from home and an oasis of calm and wonder.

The Park Hyatt hotel guestroom space planning should mimic that of a local private residence. A unique mix of locally
inspired programming and intimate spaces that captures our guests’ interests and allows them to cultivate their knowledge

ROOM TYPES

Livable Luxury

When a guest opens the door into one of our rooms, they should feel intrigued, intellectually stimulated and above all,
comfortable with their surroundings. All Park Hyatt hotel guestrooms embody all the qualities illustrated in this guide.
Whether it’s a Standard Room, Suite or Villa, our variety of room types fit the exceptional refinement of our guests. The
difference in room types is not relegated to size and FFE quantities, instead with every upgrade our guests are even more
immersed in the design narrative and stimulating qualities of the locale.

I  STANDARD

II  SUITE

III  VILLA

ROOM TYPES

Standard

Park Hyatt hotel standard rooms go

beyond hospitality standards. Our rooms
reflect local luxury residences — typically occupying one bay.

The unique programming, interior design, artwork, amenities and residential influence allow us to share our deep
knowledge of art and local culture — all within a smaller footprint.

ROOM TYPES

Suite

Park Hyatt Suites are a more approximate reflection of a local residence, occupying anywhere from two to six bays. The
additional square footage allows suites to more closely reflect a local residence in regard to space planning, proportion and
scale. Suites have a separate bedroom and living room area both with entertainment (i.e. TV, music capabilities). Suite
upgrades not only increase the number of bays but also allow for full dining areas (full pantry, food staging, refreshment
zone) full living room (larger work and entertainment zone) larger wet zones (dry and wet vanity) and larger wardrobe (full
dressing room, clothes display, 3-way mirror).

Park Hyatt Suites should not only enhance the guest experience ‘additively’ through scale and quantity, but also amplify the
experience by employing immersive narrative design elements, art installations, significant locally inspired features and
bespoke amenities commensurate with the room level / type.

ROOM TYPES

Villa

Park Hyatt Villas are a true reflection of a local stand-alone contemporary residence. The guest experience begins with
outdoor features (garden, landscaping, pool, outdoor fireplace, veranda / deck) and continues throughout the numerous
interior rooms (Foyer, Dining Room, Kitchen, Living Room, Wet Zone(s), Bedroom(s).

Park Hyatt Villas create an all encompassing guest experience. Amplifying the guest experience by employing immersive

The guestroom living room is a dynamic residential-inspired area that connects all other areas of the guestroom. The living
room allows our guest to perform three main functions—entertaining, dining and working.

In the case of a standard room, these three functions occur within the same space (1 bay) by employing design and FF&E
that can serve multiple purposes. Larger standard rooms and suites offer more defined areas (2-6 bays) for entertaining,
dining and working, while still allowing for shared programming between areas and zones. Villa designs allow for a true
reflection of a private residence’s programming and specific space planning.
