TOOLS FOR A TASK
What I Need to Know

This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you master
the nature of Carpentry. The scope of this module permits it to be used in many
different learning situations. The language used recognizes the diverse vocabulary
level of students. The lessons are arranged to follow the standard sequence of the
course. But the order in which you read them can be changed to correspond with
the textbook you are now using.

The module is talking about this lesson:

• Lesson 1 – Prepare Construction Materials and Tools

After going through this module, you are expected to:

1. Describe tools and materials used in carpentry.
2. Identify tools and materials.
3. Value the importance of tools and materials.

What I Know

Direction: Read each item carefully and use your notebook to write your answers.
as part of your initial activity, you will be challenged to dig deeper on your knowledge
and previous experiences on the topic. Try to diagnose or assess what you already
know about identifying materials and tools applicable to as specific construction job.
Take this test.
Let us determine how much you already know about identifying materials and
tools applicable to a specific construction job.
Directions: Select the best answer for the choices given. Write your answers in your
activity notebook.

What’s In

Carpentry Facts!

Carpenters, the largest group of building trades workers, held about 1.2 million jobs
in 2009. One third worked for general building contractors, 20 percent worked for
special trade contractors and 12 percent worked in heavy construction.

The length of an average carpenters schooling is anywhere from 3-4 years, it varies
on the carpenter’s skill.
