Philippine Dams

Research on the Philippine Dams and find the following:

Name of Dam Ambuklao Dam (also Ambuklao Hydroelectric

Plant)
Location Barangay Ambuclao, Bokod Benguet, Mt.
Province, Philippines
Year completed December 23, 1956
Construction duration 6 years and 5 months
Purpose of dam Its primary purpose is to generate up to 105
megawatts of electricity for the Luzon grid. Aside
from that, it holds water for irrigation of
Pangasinan's agricultural fields and aids in flood
mitigation by absorbing high peak flows and
releasing water over long periods.
Dam capacity Has a maximum water storage capacity of
327,170,000 cubic meters (265, 240 acre-ft)
Who manages the dam Due to technical problems caused by a major
earthquake in 1990, the dam has been owned and
preserved by the government through the National
Power Corporation (NAPOCOR) since 1999.

Following its decommissioning, SN Aboitiz Power-

Benguet, Inc., or SNAP-Benguet, Inc., a joint
venture between SN Power of Norway and Aboitiz
Power Corp., took over and began a massive
rehabilitation project in 2008.
Reason for construction of dam in that location The facility runs along the upper portion of
Luzon's third largest river and the island's longest
waterway, the Agno River; thus, it would be
advantageous to locate it there given that it covers
the Luzon grid.
