2.1 A current of (10+5j) A flows in a circuit when the supply voltage is (150+ 230j) V.
Determine

2.2 A circuit has an impedance Z = (3+ 4j) Ω and a source p.d. of 80∠60◦V at a frequency of
50 Hz. Determine

2.2.3 The rating of a capacitor (in var) to be connected in parallel with impedance Z to
improve the power factor of the circuit to 0.92 lagging (3)

Question 3 [22 Marks]

3.1 A 415 V, 50 Hz, 3-phase supply is connected to a star-connected balanced load. Each
phase of the load consists of a resistance of 25 Ω and inductance 0.4 H, connected in series.
Calculate

3.2 A balanced load of phase impedance 60 Ω is connected in delta. When this load is
connected to a 400 V, 50 Hz, 3-phase supply, determine

3.3 The power in a 3-phase balanced load was measured, using the two-wattmeter method.
The recorded readings were 3.6 kW and 5 kW respectively. Determine the load power and

5.1 A single-phase 400 V/200 V, 50 Hz transformer has a maximum core flux density of 1.5
T and an effective core cross-sectional area of 30𝑐𝑚2 . Determine the number of primary and
secondary turns.
