JIEZA: WHAT IS NSTP? HAVE YOU HEARD THE WORD NSTP BEFORE?

WELL…IF
NOT JUST FOCUS ON THIS VIDEO
HI MY NAME IS JIEZA, FRANCESCA, CHANICE, KYNA, AIRISH, KRISTEL, JEMALYN,
HERIE, AND DANIEL!

KYNA: SO WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR? LET’S NOW FIND OUT WHAT IS THE
EVOLUTION OF THE NSTP AND ITS LAW.

CHANICE: LET ME GIVE YOU ALL FIRST AN INTRODUCTION TO WHAT THE NSTP
IS ABOUT. SO WHAT IS NSTP ALL ABOUT? The National Service Training Program
or "NSTP" for short, is a program aimed at enhancing civic consciousness and
defense preparedness in the youth by developing the ethics of service and
patriotism while undergoing training in any of its three program components.
These various components are specifically created to boost youth participation in
contributing to the general welfare.

AIRISH: The National Service Training Program (NSTP) is a curriculum

requirement for all college students under Republic Act (RA) No. 9163. So
whether you are from private, public schools, or universities you are required to
undergo this subject because it is mandated by the law

JEMALYN: In the Republic Act of 9163 "AN ACT ESTABLISHING THE NATIONAL
SERVICE TRAINING PROGRAM (NSTP) FOR THE TERTIARY LEVEL STUDENTS,
AMENDING FOR THE PURPOSE REPUBLIC ACT NO 7077 AND PRESIDENTIAL
DECREE NO 1706 AND FOR OTHER PURPOSE”. It instills in our youth a sense of
patriotism for our country. It also prepares us to be socially aware and
responsible individual members of our community.

DANIEL: DID YOU KNOW THAT NSTP IS COMPOSED OF 3 COMPONENTS? FIRST

IS THE ROTC (Reserve Officers Training Corps), SECOND IS THE CWTS (Civic
Welfare Training Service), AND THE THIRD IS LTS (Literacy Training Service).
Reserve Officers Training Corps is designed to provide military training to tertiary
level students in order to motivate, train, organize and mobilize.

KRISTEL: Civic Welfare Training Service consists of projects and activities

designed to encourage the youth to contribute to the improvement of general
welfare and the quality of life of the local community and its various institutional
components. Particularly in terms of health, education, safety, recreation, and
morale of the citizenry.

FRANCESCA: And the Literacy Training Service is designed to teach literacy

and numeracy skills to school children, Out-of-School youth, and other segments
of society in need of their services.

JIEZA: Now let's proceed to the evolution of the NSTP Law.

 SPANISH COLONIALISM - In the Spanish Years during the Spanish colonial
years, there was a training course, similar to what is presently known as
ROTC, at the University of Sto. Tomas.
 1912 - Modern ROTC Begins To most contemporary writers, however, real
ROTC in this country did not start until 1912, when military instruction was
conducted at the University of the Philippines.
 NATIONAL DEFENSE ACT 1935 (COMMONWEALTH ACT 1) - It was passed
by the Philippine National Assembly in December 1935, during the
presidency of President Manuel L. Quezon. Its goal was to establish an
independent Philippine Army.

KYNA:
 WORLD WAR II - ROTC in World War II Records show that ROTC graduates
were called to the colors in 1942 and proved their worth on the battlefield
during the occupation.
 POST WAR TRAINING - Post-war Training Executive Order No.59 mandated
the inclusion of the ROTC Course in all colleges and universities' curricula.
 TRAINING POST MARCOS ERA (1980) - During this time, President
Ferdinand Marcos signed Presidential Decree No. 1706, also known as the
"National Service Law" in August 1980. It certainly made service mandatory
for all Filipino citizens and established three types of national service: civic
welfare, law enforcement, and military service.
