KYNA: SO WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR? LET’S NOW FIND OUT WHAT IS THE
EVOLUTION OF THE NSTP AND ITS LAW.
CHANICE: LET ME GIVE YOU ALL FIRST AN INTRODUCTION TO WHAT THE NSTP
IS ABOUT. SO WHAT IS NSTP ALL ABOUT? The National Service Training Program
or "NSTP" for short, is a program aimed at enhancing civic consciousness and
defense preparedness in the youth by developing the ethics of service and
patriotism while undergoing training in any of its three program components.
These various components are specifically created to boost youth participation in
contributing to the general welfare.
JEMALYN: In the Republic Act of 9163 "AN ACT ESTABLISHING THE NATIONAL
SERVICE TRAINING PROGRAM (NSTP) FOR THE TERTIARY LEVEL STUDENTS,
AMENDING FOR THE PURPOSE REPUBLIC ACT NO 7077 AND PRESIDENTIAL
DECREE NO 1706 AND FOR OTHER PURPOSE”. It instills in our youth a sense of
patriotism for our country. It also prepares us to be socially aware and
responsible individual members of our community.
KYNA:
WORLD WAR II - ROTC in World War II Records show that ROTC graduates
were called to the colors in 1942 and proved their worth on the battlefield
during the occupation.
POST WAR TRAINING - Post-war Training Executive Order No.59 mandated
the inclusion of the ROTC Course in all colleges and universities' curricula.
TRAINING POST MARCOS ERA (1980) - During this time, President
Ferdinand Marcos signed Presidential Decree No. 1706, also known as the
"National Service Law" in August 1980. It certainly made service mandatory
for all Filipino citizens and established three types of national service: civic
welfare, law enforcement, and military service.
