Note-taking is an important aspect of formal
Introduction classroom learning (Williams R. L., and Eggert,
Literature Review A. C, 2002). It plays an important role in
preserving knowledge.
Handwritten Lectures are summaries of the
students’ understanding in discussions and
reports. The usual medium is pen and paper.
Digital lectures are observed in numerous
approaches such as slideshows /powerpoint
presentations, video lectures, photo captures,
and other education-based software.
Purpose Compare the outcome of the impact on the
Objectives
different methods of note taking on their
academic performance

Provides an evaluation behind the Grade 10

students' preference on notetaking methods

To distinguish the difference of handwritten

and digital lectures
Research 1. How may the demographic profile of the
respondents be described in terms of:
Questions 1.1. Age
SOP 1.2. Sex
2. What is the preference of the
respondents on taking lectures in terms of:
2.1. Medium
2.2. Effort
2.3. Time
Research 3. What are the results of the assessments
Questions based on the method of note taking?

4. Based on the results of the assessments,
what are the effects of each method in
terms of:
4.1. Test Scores
4.2. Understanding of Material

Research Instrument The research sample is composed of 78
Data Collection Procedure Grade 10 students from Section A and B of
Angeles City National Trade School.
Statistical Treatment
Discussion The respondents have varying answers
to their preferred type of note taking
method.
On discussing their preferred medium,
majority picked handwritten.
In terms of time, a lot of the
respondents switched to digital lectures
Discussion However, in terms of effort, their
preference maintained to digital
lectures which they responded that it
was very helpful.
Most of the respondents said that
Handwritten lectures were helpful to a
great extent in the understanding of
material.
1. Majority of the respondents in the study
Conclusion are female (78.21%) followed by the male
(21.79%). A larger part of the respondents
are aged 15, followed by 16 then age 17.

2. Students’ preferred note taking method

in terms of medium is handwritten; in terms
of effort, majority chose digital; meanwhile
in terms of time, most of the respondents
also chose digital lectures.
Conclusion 3. Control Group A used the Handwritten
method, meanwhile Control Group B did so
with a Digital Method. It is observed that
Control Group A had slightly higher scores.

4. Based on the results of the assessment,

students who utilize the handwritten
method produce better scores and had a
more thorough understanding of the topic.
Recom- 1. Students must accurately assess their own
level of comprehension or skill guiding their
mendation preferences.

2. Teachers should experiment with different

methods that is suitable to the 21st century
learners’ needs while aiming to obtain
optimal knowledge.
Recom- 3. Future researchers need to examine more
on the factors that influence the students’
mendation preference of methods and lecture types.

Also, to apply a more experimental

method towards the effects of both
methods on the students’ academic
performance.
