Grid Iron System

In Russia the first planned city was St. Petersburg founded in 1703 by Peter I. The
project of this architect for Vasilyevsky Island was a typical rectangular grid of streets (originally
intended to be canals, like in Amsterdam), with three lengthwise thoroughfares, rectangularly
crossed with about 30 crosswise streets.
Dead End System

Distribution system dead-ends are well known problematic locations for water quality.
The City of Montreal (Canada) is supplied by the Atwater(250 MGD) and the Des Baillets (300
MGD) Water. Treatment Plants. Both plants use filtration without coagulation, and post-
chlorination. Des Baillets also injects ozone before the final chlorine disinfection.
The Montreal distribution system is divided into six pressure zones. This partitioning is
done by closing valves on the distribution system, therefore creating dead-end conditions on
each side of the valve. The total number of dead-ends is estimated to be over a thousand.
Ring Water Distribution System

The London Water Ring Main is a major part of London’s water supply infrastructure. It
consists of 80 km of 2.54 m (100″) underground concrete tunnel sections and is used to transfer
potable water from various water treatment works into the Central London distribution zones.
Hydraulic Analysis have been involved in the design and analysis of the ring main since its
conception in the 1980’s and we still run the mathematical models of the ring main as it is
planned to continually extend it through to 2025 as the infrastructure of London develops.
Faced with a continuing growth in demand and the need to replace a large part of
London's ageing water supply system, Thames Water have devised an integrated strategy for
future water supply to the capital. At the core of this strategy is the construction of over 60 km of
deep tunnel (the London Water Ring Main) to convey water to the capital's major demand
centres. The ring main will radically alter the way in which water is supplied to London, and a
considerable amount of analytical work has been necessary to develop proposals and an
operating system.
Radial Water Distribution System

Panvel city is situated in Raigad district of Maharashtra state. However, for optimal
design purpose a part of water supply network of Shiva Nagar area from Panvel city is
considered. The source for study area of ESR is located in Shivaji Nagar. In the city pipes are
laid of various materials such as R.C.C., C.I. and A.C. for the distribution system.

Primarily, reservoir was a focal point from where the pipes and nodes will be drawn
through Water GEMS software. In the given network the ductile iron pipes are used and the
different colors of pipe show different diameters and for distribution of pipe the radial method is
used.
