Research TWO professional or graduate schools that you would like to consider applying to in the future
(they can be for the same profession or different professions). Use the Pre-Health Advising website,
USciences catalog, school website, or Google reputable sources. Be prepared to cite/link sources:
Admission Test
Most professional and graduate schools require applicants to take an admission examination (not
applicable for current students applying only internally to our PharmD, PT, OT, or PA programs).
To learn more about the profession of researcher I want to explore different careers that are deeply
involved with the medical research and that are focused on laboratory work. Since the medical
research environment or work can varied notably from a university to a private company to public
health workers, I want to explore the possible research careers in this fields. For example, I will learn
and explore the options as a Medical Laboratory scientist. This profession involves a primary lab
work of analyzing and has possible outcomes for a research career.
To learn more about a microbiologist career I want to learn what are the types of jobs that a
microbiology career offers. I want to explore more about the presence of microbiologist specially in
the pharmaceutical fields. I also plan to talk directly with professors with careers or interest focused
on microbiology such a s Professor Heindl that studied in Harvard. I think this is the best way to
know firsthand the requirements to pursue this type of career and the expectations such as job
opportunities and future plants that I should expect along my way.
2. What are some Opportunities you are interested in becoming involved with and why?
(Feel free to find your own and use this page as a starting point!)
Since for both of my profession a lot of research is involve in a directly or indirectly manner, I really
want to bet involve in undergraduate research here at the university. Essentially, I want to get
involve in a research inside the biology faculty because my main interest is either the microbiology
field or the cell biology field more involved with disease treatment. Therefore, some of the research
labs that I am looking froward to work in are the Janetopoulos Lab that is involved with cell biology
research as they study the signaling of amoebas or Heindl Lab. I am currently involved in
Janetopoulos lab but so far, I have learned the basic techniques that will let me work and get more
involved in the future. I think these two labs would give me a great inside of the professions I am
looking to pursue since they are basically type of lab work, I want to get involve with in my future
work life. As for off-campus opportunities it is more complicated for me as I am international
students, and my visa status does not allow me to work outside of the university. Nevertheless, I am
currently looking for some opportunities of voluntary work or contracts in labs or even for
opportunities to work during the summer.
One of my goals I plan to accomplish in the next 3 months is to get involved deeper in the research lab I
am currently working. I plan to do this by helping the professor and the graduated student he is working
with by helping them in the process of writing a proposal and a whole scientific paper based on the work
they have been during the last year and that they will finish in the summer. I believe that the process of
writing scientific problems is one of the more complex aspect of a scientific job involved in research. I
believe this is a perfect goal that will help me develop the necessary communication and writing skills
that are essential in order to be accepted in competitive programs ins prestigious graduated schools.
