For civil engineers, how could I workout a rate analysis for shuttering
works?

1. Material
2. Labor
MATERIAL
Shuttering material can further be bifurcated into to sub-heads, System Material (Usually metal
components like MS Plates, Aluminium primary and secondary beams, base jacks, ledgers, verticals etc.)
and Shuttering consumables (Spigot pins, pine wood used as runners, battens, ply etc.)
Depending on your temporary loading requirement, scope of project, available funds and project timeline,
finalize the type of formwork system to be used (ref. Formwork or TYPES OF FORMWORK
(SHUTTERING)
System components usually can be used multiple times and hence one must account only the depreciation
for the period of time through which the system is being used. For a project as a whole, you must also
account for idling time. Details on methods to depreciate the system should be worked out based on the
lifetime, capital investment and time value of money.
Consumables should be estimated based on actual usage. It changes as per the elements like verticals
(columns and walls) and horizontals (slabs, beams etc.)
LABOR
Depending upon the type the formwork system implemented, labour requirements are as follows:
Labor for Shuttering making/fabrication - to fabricate panels of specific size and remaking of
previously used panels.
Labor for

Labor charges for Staging, Decking, Skin and Leveling. Extra charges for unconventional heights

Labor charges for Cross Bracing, Back Propping and other Misc. activities if necessary

Bottom line is the profit at which the firm wants to operate. End of day "Bottom line" is the final motivation

I am assuming you are looking for a rate analysis for shuttering with an intention of quoting the rate in a
bid.
Rate analysis for shuttering changes quite a lot depending on the type of structure and the type of
shuttering scheme. For a building, you get a higher number of repetitions. The number of repetitions will
further depend on the material you will use. Similarly for shuttering for a water tank or a podium slab, you
will get fewer repetitions since the plan and the sections will not be typical for each time you use the

To start off, I need to let you know that I have construction experience in Pakistan, I will tell you how things
are done here and it will most probably be the same in many parts of the world. For example, the column
dimensions under consideration are 2'x2' concrete column Read More

For analysis of rate u have to calculate under following :- 1. Materials 2. Labours 3. P&M 4. Overhead
5. Profit Lets clear it with an example… Considering 1MT of reinforcement work, A) Materials:- 1. Cost of
TMT Bars - 1.03MT at the rate of Rs.48,000/MT = Rs.49440/- 2. Cost of Binding Wire - 7Kg at theReadrate of…

Why are water charges of 1% added to the analysis of rates for civil works?
Vishal Godhwani
Answered March 8, 2017
Water that is used for construction activities is charged by the municipal corporation. They charge about
0.5 Rs/litre. So the civil contractor either includes water charge of 1% of total amount at the end of bill or
calculates the volume of water required and multiplies it with rate while calculating Read More
What is the labour rate for cutting and fixing reinforcement in footing, stub columns
and plinth beams?
Rajat Kalinga
Answered November 26, 2017
The question has many things missing. As the rate not only depends on specific work it also depends on
state wise(locality) according to available source, weather condition, local trend beside this various other
factor even working time schedule to achieve the target is also considered. However to get Read More
How do I calculate the number of props required for a 1000 sq. ft. slab area?
Pankaj Goel
Answered July 5, 2018
Very easy steps for calculating no of props : Area of shuttering plate is = (900 X 600) mm =0.54 sq mt
1000 sq feet area = 92.94 sq mt No of sheet = (92.94/0.54) = 172 Nos Total no of MS sheet required for
1000 sq feet area is = 172 Nos Total no of span required for 1000 sq feet area is = (172 / 5) = 35Read

concrete quantity is known?
Vivek Kumar, Planning Engineer Civil
Answered January 4, 2018
Yes there is a thumb rule for it. It surely depends on the structural elements to be concreted. For eg: take a
beam of size 200*300 mm and length 5m. Then the total concrete required will be l*b*h i.e .2*.3*5 = 0.3
m3. Now let's calculate it's shuttering quantity. Suppose it's not a plinth beam and Read More
Quantity of steel is not dependent on the volume of concrete, but on the structure where it is being used.
Slabs: 0.7 to 1.0%, Beams: 1% to 2%, Columns: 1% to 5% It may vary depending upon the loading condition
as well For Example Lets take example of RCC Column, where reinforcement required is 2 % of Read More
