BUSINESS PERFORMANCE OF ORGANIC AND NON-ORGANIC FARMS IN SANTA

MARIA LAGUNA
OBJECTIVES:

The goal of this study was to assess the impact of internal and external variables on
entrepreneurial behavior, the impact of entrepreneurial conduct on business performance, and the
direct impact of external factors on the business performance of organic and inorganic farms in
St. Maria Laguna. Sta. Maria is a well-known rice granary of Laguna with rice paddy fields
covering
1,381 hectares and high value rice compared to other provinces and it has a lot
of business entities and opportunities concerning agricultural business around
this area. There are lots of organic and non-organic farms in the said
municipality but not all is for profit. There are also farms that offers training and
education. Farmers of Sta. Maria are mindful of their usage of energy and
resources, and conscientious in their practice of responsible consumption as
they put effort in environmental sustainability as they focus on furnishing their
clients with excellent quality products. The first objective of this study is to
provide qualitative assessment of their business’ effectiveness and their performance in offering
an agricultural products that meets the expectations of
their consumers and customers while achieving their primary goal which is to
generate an income as they need to meet their living expenses and business
expenses. The second objective of this study is to provide assessment on how
the farmers adapt in fast changing and advanced new machineries. Machine advancements have
increased the scale, speed, and productivity of farm equipment, allowing for more efficient
cultivation of more area. Seed, irrigation, and fertilizers have also greatly improved, assisting
farmers in increasing yields. Advancements in machineries also affected a lot of farmers in Sta.
Maria. We want to know how business owners maintain their farmers now that they can simply
access new machineries. The last objective of this study is to analyze how resilient business
owners, farm owners, and farmers are in the face of uncertainty and thereby identify the
strengths and weaknesses of their farming systems, as well as the farmers operating in them, in
the context of COVID-19 pandemic. This objective is constructed around the following points
components:
1. Analyze the effect of the COVID-19 epidemic on farmers' livelihoods around the world.three
agricultural systems;
2. Describe farmers' adaption tactics in the three farming systems.
3. Examine the ability of farmers to secure a living.
